Enjoyable introduction to a new series
I enjoyed this book, and the narrator, once I got used to his somewhat heavy voice. The lead character sometimes comes across as rather gloomy. But then he has his reasons.

Poor recording
Story OK, what I could hear of it... Huge dynamic range, mumbly narrator made it impossible to listen to in the car.

Find this Narrator hard work
I have enjoyed the complete series of Calladine and Bayliss books by this author. I downloaded 3 DCI Greco books and was looking forward to enjoying listening to them. I find the narators voice annoying, it goes soft and low half way through each sentence making it difficult to hear.

"Eyes."
D C I Stephen Greco, has newly arrived at the CID office in Oldston. His team is small, with mixed enthusiasms, and has to be quickly pulled together with the finding of the mutilated body of a woman by the canal side. The reader is introduced to each of the team members and their individual problems as well as those of Greco himself - recently divorced, he has mild OCD and finds it difficult to cope when his ex wife unexpectedly leaves their daughter with him to look after.
The book is quite short, the characters well drawn and the dialogue very plausible. narrator Nicholas Camm further increases this aspect by giving individual and easily identifiable voice to each protagonist. His performance definitely enhanced the overall enjoyment of this story. However, the murder mystery itself seemed more contrived and the introductory '15 years before' preface would have been better replaced with extra time and explanation being infused into the conclusion. The whole also suffers from an annoying variation in the playback volume which definitely reduces its star rating.
An interesting start to a new police procedural series and one I will probably continue to follow at least into book two

Story ok, narrator absolutely dreadful
Story was ok, nothing more, nothing less, but sadly read by one of the worst narrators I’ve listened to … zero consistency in accents for each character, the lead detective who was allegedly from Norfolk swung from having a West Country accent to at one point an American drawl … unbelievable! Had I paid to listen I would’ve been sending it back for a refund of my credit! Real shame 🤷🏼♀️

Brilliant 5 star audio book
I have read some of Helen's books and loved them so thought I had better start at the beginning of this series.
The book is a very well written story which kept me hooked all the way through, even though I did guess who the murderer was about half way through, I just didn't know who else would die and whether they would get away with it or not.
The narration was also very good and it was easy to distinguish between characters as well as their voices being consistent all the way through

Very poor sound quality!
Very poor sound quality, partly due to narrators voice! It's so low at times it can't be heard!! Story ok but the poor sound spoilt it for me!!!

Boarding
I love a good crime book but this didn't grip me at all. Not memorable and not worth investigating in the series
