About this listen

Edinburgh has Rebus.
The Highlands have Logan.
Now Yorkshire has Grimm....

Welcome to Wensleydale, where the cheese is famous, the scenery beautiful, and the locals have murder on their minds....

Detective Chief Inspector Harry Grimm is forced to take leave from Bristol’s Major Investigations Team when his boss, tired of Harry chasing the ghost of his murderous father, sends him north on secondment.

Used to city life and high stress, Harry fears his life will now be spent handing out speeding tickets, finding lost sheep, and directing tourists. But when a local teenager runs away, Harry finds himself pulled into an investigation much worse than anyone could have ever expected.

The nicer the place, the darker the secrets. Wensleydale is beautiful, everyone is friendly and welcoming, and people just don’t get murdered...do they?

A classic fish-out-of-water crime mystery set in the stunning and evocative scenery of Wensleydale in North Yorkshire.

Grimm Up North is the terrific debut crime novel from award-winning author David J. Gatward. Perfect for fans of L. J. Ross, J. D. Kirk, Simon McCleave, Alex Smith, J. M. Dalgliesh, J. E. Mayhew, and J. R. Ellis.

Slow to start, and I was even tempted to stop listening. Glad I didn’t. Lovely characters, lovely descriptions, and great narration. Now onto book 2

This book was recommended by a friend, I had a look and realised it was on audio too, perfect, I'd check it out next.

I'm glad I did, I've listened to these back to back, I've only just registered I'd not left any reviews and I'm on book 5 ;)

I have really enjoyed getting to know this gruff copper, transplanted to close where I live, laughing as he is confused by the weird things that are normal up here.

I love a good crime novel, working out what's going on, attempting to guess 'whodunit following clues, seeing how all the ends are tied up.

The scenery of The Dales is like an extra character, not that welcome at first to Harry Grimm but becomes a friend.

I really enjoyed the introduction to Grimm and the Wendesledale team. He is a bit of a grump but that seems to go with the grizzled detective genre anyway!! The narrator is very good, keeps the pace of the book going and holds your interest very well. I'm looking forward to the next one already.

Great new series (to me)

Really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to get into the next one. The homely descriptions of the landscape and people makes me want to pack up and visit!
The story was a good one with a few twists twist that kept me guessing right to the end.

Start of a lovely series!

I enjoyed this story but that Scottish accent was horrific!
I will listen to the next one and hopefully the supposedly Scottish lassie will be away hame
There are very few English narrators that can do Scottish accent if it wasn’t so cringey I’d have laughed !!

Good story
