Excellent

This is a superb audiobook full of humour as well as sadness. It is peopled with wonderful and memorable characters and Martin Jarvis marvellous reading brings them alive.

I was forced to read this book at school when I was obviously far too young and did not 'get' the humour. What a mistake! Only now, after 40 years, was I tempted to try it again. I am now off to get other Dickens audio books!

I highly recommend this book to you . . . it is just made to be read aloud and I can think of no better person than Martin Jarvis to do so.

Fantastic narrator

For an audible book north of 30 hours to not once deliver a line less than perfectly is practically superhuman. And the character voices are superb - Edward Murdstone, for example, has a rather Alan Rickmanesque poisonous drawl. I like a bit of Dickens, though I'm not a die hard fan, but Martin Jarvis had me hanging on every word. Off to see what else this extraordinary actor has performed.

Thoroughly enjoyed and excellently performed. The narrator brings a life to the book that brings joy and sorrow, excellent.

Brilliant reading of a great novel

I can't imagine a better reading of this great novel than Martin Jarvis's. He brings each of the large cast of characters vividly to life, and paces the book perfectly so that the forward momentum is constantly maintained (crucial in such a large book). A perfect introduction to Dickens on audiobook for anyone who hasn't tried him.

Great delivery. Good story, but lengthy

Great narration, Martin Jarvis is excellent.
Good story with some real characters, Uriah Heep is brilliant.
Entirely too lengthy. Dickens is very self indulgent with this story. Far too much gushing over Dora, quite nauseating at times.
A good book but not Dickens’ best.

What a narrator!

This is my first Charles Dickinson story, which I didn’t want to end.. I really became so absorbed in the story.

But wow what a narrator! The amount of characters he switched to and from and ud always know which person he was speaking in without ever getting muddled

Martin Jarvis, brilliant narrator!

Thoroughly enjoyed this version of David Copperfield. Arguably the best book by Charles Dickens. Brilliantly narrated by Martin Jarvis. He brings the story to live with his voice acting. All of the characters voices are so distinct. Recommend to all.
