About this listen

The Japanese bestseller: a tale of love, new beginnings, and the comfort that can be found between the pages of a good book.

When twenty-five-year-old Takako's boyfriend reveals he's marrying someone else, she reluctantly accepts her eccentric uncle Satoru's offer to live rent-free in the tiny room above his shop.

Hidden in Jimbocho, Tokyo, the Morisaki Bookshop is a booklover's paradise. On a quiet corner in an old wooden building, the shop is filled with hundreds of second-hand books. It is Satoru's pride and joy, and he has devoted his life to the bookshop since his wife left him five years earlier.

Hoping to nurse her broken heart in peace, Takako is surprised to encounter new worlds within the stacks of books lining the shop.

And as summer fades to autumn, Satoru and Takako discover they have more in common than they first thought. The Morisaki bookshop has something to teach them both about life, love, and the healing power of books.

Quirky, beautifully written, and movingly profound, Days at the Morisaki Bookshop will appeal to readers of Before The Coffee Gets Cold, The Cat Who Saved Books, and anyone who has had to recover from a broken heart.

The charming sequel, More Days at the Morisaki Bookshop, is out now. Look out for the brand new novel Days at the Torunka Café coming soon!

This story gets mixed reviews. I’m glad I listened before reading the reviews as they may have deterred me from listening and I would have missed a delightful warm story.

A Beautiful Story

I normally read non fiction and self improvement books. I am going through a burnout. This was the perfect book to take the pressure off as the character is going through a life change toi.i have also got a trip to Japan planned next year. I hope the bookshop street is real.

a warm cup of coffee

This was a pleasant book to listen to. Pleasantly narrated and a pleasant story. I'm not using that word in a derogatory or condescending way at all. I genuinely enjoyed the story and found it very relaxing to listen to. It was a simple story of an old bookshop, its history and the lost connection between Uncle and niece. It really was a pleasant story and one I would recommend if you need to read or listen to something soothing and calm.

Beautifully read, this charming story is just the ticket if the real world is getting you down. A wonderful escape to a quirky Tokyo neighbourhood of second hand bookstores and a tender exploration of love and loss.

I read this book based on positive reviews. However, rather than finding it charming, I found it annoying and lightweight. Practically no story and very saccharine. Not for me.

Candyfloss- overly sweet

I liked this sweet family story. The narrator was a bit wooden, but otherwise it was very enjoyable.
