A windowless shack in the woods. Lena's life and that of her two children follows the rules set by their captor, the father: meals, bathroom visits, study time are strictly scheduled and meticulously observed. He protects his family from the dangers lurking in the outside world and makes sure that his children will always have a mother to look after them.

One day Lena manages to flee - but the nightmare continues. It seems as if her tormentor wants to get back what belongs to him. And then there is the question whether she really is the woman called 'Lena', who disappeared without a trace over thirteen years ago. The police and Lena's family are all desperately trying to piece together a puzzle that doesn't quite seem to fit.

Captured!

Ironically, I was completely captured by this story. The narration was fabulous, especially appreciated the ‘phone call’ effect. The epilogue ironed out a few things that confused me and the authors note at the end touched me deeply. Sad when it was all over.

Superb

One of the best listening experiences I've had on Audible... dark, gripping, superbly narrated and kept me guessing right to the end, I have a terrible habit of guessing the twist but not this time!

A great listen.

Enjoyed this book immensely .Beautifully narrated, and kept its villain secret right to the end.

wow

This is the best thriller I've heard in a long time. Genuinely thrilling twists and turns and the writer has done a great job of making it feel uncomfortable. The story moves on at pace. The narration is good. I cannot recommend this book enough!

Only OK

This had great reviews so I gave it a try. I found it meandered a little in the middle, a lot of it could have been edited a little better. I found myself losing interest and just wanted to get to the end. I give it three stars, it's a good thriller but not five star quality.

Gripping read!

Had me guessing and on pins until the end. Great story with plenty of drama.

Kept me engaged

I had never heard anything about this book before I picked it up in the sale. I had figured out one of the twists very early on but decided to stick with it and I'm glad I did as there were more twists and turns to come. I will say that the grandfathers voice can be annoying as it sounds like he is sucking on a sweet or something during reading but once sped up to 2x it's hardly noticable. I wont be rereading but I'm glad to have this one under my belt and would say give it a go if it's ever on sale again.

An moving and intricately woven tradgey

A very clever and thoughtful story about the fallout of a crime. An unusualperspective on what on a crimes impact can be. This does not follow the obvious path of many crime books

Great thriller.

As it says in the blurb, it starts where most thrillets end, and it really keeps you guessing.
