Summary
ITW Thriller Award winner
International Book Awards winner
Nina can never forgive Maggie for what she did. And she can never let her leave.
They say every house has its secrets, and the house that Maggie and Nina have shared for so long is no different. Except that these secrets are not buried in the past.
Every other night, Maggie and Nina have dinner together. When they are finished, Nina helps Maggie back to her room in the attic, and into the heavy chain that keeps her there. Because Maggie has done things to Nina that can’t ever be forgiven, and now she is paying the price.
But there are many things about the past that Nina doesn’t know, and Maggie is going to keep it that way - even if it kills her.
Because in this house, the truth is more dangerous than lies.
Critic reviews
"[Marrs'] most sinister novel to date." --Daily Express
"An excellent psychological thriller. A one-sitting read about a daughter who keeps her mother locked in the attic. Twisty, moving, and chilling." --Sarah Pinborough, bestselling author of Behind Her Eyes
"A tense, thrilling read - I found it impossible to put down. It’s dark and twisted, and I loved it." --Alex Michaelides, bestselling author of The Silent Patient

Excellent book.
Some small parts were a little predictable, but a very well written book, and well worth a read or listen.

Sinister, tense, brilliant.
John Marrs is quickly becoming my go-to author of choice if I want a futuristic or sinister story. What Lies Between Us ticks the sinister box perfectly.
When the story begins, Maggie has been chained up in a second floor room of her home by her daughter, Nina. Then the tale, which began 25 years ago, begins to unfold.
Dark and twisty with tension throughout, and an overall air of doom, this book is a thrilling read.

Had me captured
This was a brilliant book right up to the ending. Which disappointed me greatly and I feel quite jipped.

Full of twists and turns, highly recommended
I’m a big fan of this genre but the stories can become fairly predictable after a time and it’s rare that I’ve not worked it out before the end. Not so with this cracker of a story! It was full of surprises all the way through and I finished it in 2 days. Really well narrated too. Off to download more from this author now!

Another Corker from John Marrs
well.. where do I start? I felt SO sorry for Nina. This book had me guessing, second guessing, third guessing. I could not stop listening. her mother Maggie is horrible!! But then... just as you to thought you knew what was happening.. it changes up a track again! I'm so sad I've finished it.. which is always the sign of a good book!!!

Enthralling
4.5 stars.
This was another riveting psychological thriller from John Marrs. However, other than a couple of small twists I was able to figure things out early on (sigh....) and in all honesty the narrator stole the show - Elizabeth Knowelden, you are an exceptionally talented lady.

Stressful read but good!
Took a while for me to get into it and felt too long and confusing at times, but story is good. Very interesting actually. Enjoyed it.
