About this listen
This morning, I was packing up lunches, ironing, putting on the laundry I should have done last night. Now my precious daughter is accused of murder.
When 10-year-old cousins Maddy and Brianna are arrested for a terrible crime, Maddy’s mother, Juliet, cannot believe it.
How could her bright, joyful daughter be capable of such a thing?
As the small village community recoils in horror, the pressure of the tragedy blows Juliet and her sister’s lives apart. And things get even worse when their daughters retreat into a self-imposed silence. Can anyone reach Maddy and discover the truth before her fate is sealed?
Juliet is crushed. Nothing will ever be the same for her darling girl. But she knows that to find out what really happened that day, she and her sister must unlock the secrets of their own terrible past, a past they swore never to speak about again.
The most unputdownable psychological thriller you’ll listen to this year from the best-selling author K. L. Slater. If you love The Wife Between Us or Gone Girl, you’ll be totally hooked on The Silent Ones.

Good story and excellent narration
This book kept me engrossed right the way through. Lucy Price Lewis was, as always, a brilliant narrator.

Not the most likely of stories
When children tell stories they often use the formulae ‘and then.... and then... and then...’ A similar approach underpins this tale. If you manage to keep going to the end you will be doing very well indeed. However, it may be a sign that you are prepared to put up with almost anything. But (really) we all know, deep down, that this kind of thing just isn’t good enough.
Good luck.

Absorbing and quite original
Interesting characters, particularly the two main female protagonists and the plot is complex and intriguing. I felt the denouement was a little rushed or it would have been 5 stars. The 'epilogue ' chapters helped tie up the story though.

A bit long winded
a great story but found some sections a bit over embellished and left me wanting the story to move on. story content good with a sharp set of twists at the conclusion.

Engrossing
Basically a good thriller and I had to keep listening, needing to find out what had happened. I liked the switch to the points of view of different characters rather than just one narrator.
But I found the timescale jarring - far too much happened in the first hours - and the resolution involving the childhood incident completely unconvincing. In a village apparently renowned for its gossip and its ability to spread news in the modern incident, no-one had ever breathed a word to the sisters about the earlier outcome??? And that knowledge was latterly a weapon held against one of them???
It was a fast paced and enjoyable book, but there was just too much wrong with the ending. It could have done without the earlier incident altogether.

Stick with it
Just after middleish the half way point it gets a bit predictable but stick with it - it’s about to get good
