Summary

He’s known by many names: Thanatos. Horseman. God’s last angel. And then, of course, there's the one I’m all too familiar with...

Death.

The day Death comes to Lazarus Gaumond’s town and kills everyone in one fell swoop, the last thing he expects to see is a woman left alive and standing. But Lazarus has her own extraordinary gift: She cannot be killed—not by humans, not by the elements, not by Death himself.

She is the one soul Death doesn’t recognize. The one soul he cannot pry free from her flesh. Nor can he ignore the unsettling desire he has for her. Take her. He wants to, desperately. And the longer she tries to stop him from his killing spree, the stronger the desire becomes.

When Lazarus crosses paths with the three other horsemen, an unthinkable situation leads to a terrible deal: seduce Death, save the world. A hopeless task, made all the worse by the bad blood between her and Thanatos. But Death’s attraction to her is undeniable, and try though she might, Lazarus cannot stay away from that ancient, beautiful being and his dark embrace.

The end is here. Humankind is set to perish, and not even the horsemen can stop Death from fulfilling his final task.

Only Lazarus can.

Amazing!!!

I utterly loved Death, I fell for him so much quicker than the other horsemen and quicker than Laz did I think haha! I loved all the female characters but I think I also loved Laz the most too! I loved this book, I really, really loved the ending! Such a great way to end the series!

Get your Handkerchief ready

The only thing I didn’t like was the man reading Death’s part. His voice is strange and he does some kind of breathing at the end of each sentence.
Now back to the story.

Ok so this story was so beautiful I keep crying. It was a freaking rollercoaster.
It was nice to have all of the 4 brothers interact. It made them more real.
And the ending was so freaking sad. I love stories ending like this.

Oh god what am i going to listen too now. I feel so empty after listening to all of the 4 stories in just 1 week.

Alright

It was alright but I really found it dragging in parts. The 4 books are very similar. This one too. But it was just long..

An unexpectedly dreamy last novel

I wasn't sure about these novels initially- the first novel in particular I found so dark and gruesome #painandsufferingmuch but by this novel it sort of changes your whole perspective of the entire story arc! Really enjoyed!

Good, but not the best

I’ve listened to all four and this one is not the best, War is. Had some issues with the FMC, but maybe that’s just me. Miriam was smarter. Many thanks to Susannah for making it considerably better than it actualy was.

Still good but not as good as the other three books

As always the narration is excellent. The story is very good towards the second half but there is a lot of just talking and repeat situations between the two main characters. What makes the male lead decision isn’t really believable (if you get me) lol

Did really enjoy the epilogue.

Enjoyable story

I enjoyed this story. If you’ve listened to the previous books you know the type of storyline (killing off whole cities regularly etc), but I thought it handled the concept of positive afterlife well, which helped justify the storyline more, and to see Thanatos more positively.

Great conclusion of this series

The book is beautifully written and the story very emotional. I don't know why I felt so sad throughout the book and cried at the end. Maybe, the story, despite being fantasy, is too close to home and her reflections on humanity too truthful. Each horseman is totally unique and I loved meeting Thanatos and Lazarous, loved their personalities and bickering. Death trying on food for the first time was very funny. Good, solid conclusion for this series and in theme for Halloween month.I
The narration was outstanding. Susannah Jones and Jay Ben Markson made this tale even more emotional, profound and beautiful with their interpretation of the characters.
