Annabelle is looking forward to meeting up with an old friend but before she has the chance, her friend gets caught up in a murder investigation by becoming the prime suspect. Mary was meeting someone to try and gain funding to help her hospital in Africa but a woman passes Mary a note claiming the lady she is to meet is in danger, before she dies. Mary and Annabelle rush off to save a life but find themselves once again being questioned by the police. Annabelle knows her friend isn't responsible for the death and the only way to prove it, is to find a killer.
I liked the narrator. She has a bubble voice which made the story fun but it did mean Mary sometime got annoying as she was A light high pitched.

Death at the Cafe is a fun cosy crime story, featuring the Reverend Annabelle Dixon early in her career. I really like Annabelle, she is kind and compassionate, as well as being keen not to let an injustice happen.
The mystery itself is baffling, at least to start with, as people keep dying in front of Annabelle and Mary. I enjoyed being along for the ride as Annabelle investigates, and it gets quite exciting towards the end (can’t say more without spoilers).
The narrator is not my favourite, her voice unfortunately tends to make the female voices sound rather babyish, especially Mary. However, once I got used to it, and wrapped up in the story, I no longer noticed. I thought she did a good job on the male voices, and the various accents of the more minor characters.
Overall, this was a fun cosy crime, and the beginning of a very enjoyable series.
