About this listen

The audiobook is more of a motivational program than instruction manual discussing the themes of minimalism according to a relatable context. It breaks down 50 ways of reducing clutter within your life, grouped according to four categories. These are:

  • Mind-set or perspective
  • Implementation
  • Social media themes
  • Peripheral considerations

All these tools are meant to reduce and eventually eliminate clutter in your life, from a mental position to the implementation and everything in between governing the life of an individual.

The audiobook encourages a lifestyle change from consumerism, which has become a silent plague on the present society, and shows ways of how to assimilate minimalism into your life until it becomes part of your habits. Minimalism is not encouraged as a goal but as a continuous process because cluttering is oriented the same way. Clutter is also a lifestyle that entails glut and neglect.

This audiobook teaches how to be aware of your surroundings and keep vigilant of your mind and your residence.

There were times when the author seems to harp on

There were times when the author seems to harp on a subject. For a while, I was thinking, 'that's unrealistic'. But listen to the whole way through. If you're struggling with mess and clutter you've found a friend for the path. You've found your people. She's flexible, but you have to hear her out. This approach will change how you do things.

Years ago I set out looking for The organizing book. You know the one - the one that will make it All make sense. Once you've read it, you won't have a single mess left to clean up. But experience is the best teacher. This author takes that on with humor. Things get clean because we clean them. We learn what works for us by experience. There will be one or two of her methods you have to adjust to your unique circumstances. For the most part, this is that book. But as much because she honors that experience will always be the best teacher. She has great methods. She has great advice. She also has the wisdom to give ideas for how her advice might need to be tweaked for unique needs. Good book. I highly recommend it.

So far this is the most helpful audible book

So far this is the most helpful audible book for beginners that I have listening to. No more wondering when and what to clean or where to start. A good listen to for maintaining a clean, organized home. I would prefer to suggest this audio-book to all interested newbies. A great place to start getting your home under control. Simple steps and easy questions to ask yourself to clean and declutter.

I highly recommend it!!

This book came up as an Amazon recommendation based on several other books I'd bought. I was unfamiliar with the book or the author, but the title piqued my interest. I would have bought the book right away if it hadn't been for the fact that I was attempting to save money.

I began reading it and then switched to listening to her podcasts. But, as much as I enjoyed what I was reading/hearing, I kept thinking that reading (listening to) the book would be beneficial because it would provide me with a comprehensive summary of all of her thoughts. So I bought it, and I'm pleased I did! It gives a wonderful summary of his approach to "keeping house," just as I expected, so now when I listen to a podcast or read his blog, I have a better understanding of the broad picture and can enjoy them more.

In terms of the book itself, I adore its simplicity. I like how he's broken down the most important things a person needs to do to stay on top of their housework. Because of my strong tendency toward an all-or-nothing mentality, I've always suffered. I see everything that needs to be done, and if I can't, I tend to do nothing. So many times I've thought to myself, "I need to find that stable middle ground." What are the things that really make a difference if I can't accomplish everything? In his book, Eugene a wonderful job of defining this.

For several weeks, I've been following the approach that the author sited here, and it's had a significant impact! Even though I was sick with the illness and spent most of my time in bed, I was able to keep up with those easy activities. My laundry is in much better shape than it has ever been, and I've effectively adjusted my mindset from feeling like I need to get organized to thinking in terms of "simply decluttering" and making sure I start with the visible spaces and the simple stuff. That, I believe, has been greatly appreciated by my wife.

So yes, this is a great book. If you are struggling with trying to maintain order in your home while juggling a very busy life, this book is a great one to read. I highly recommend it!!

Must read!

The emphasis is strongly on personal possessions, including shoes. The ideas can be extended to a whole house but I find it's missing in certain ways. Saying that you can keep things even because they offer you pleasure is good but not very realistic. His other audio-books are even stronger and more insightful.

Must read!

I feel frustrated by having to address all of these fields simultaneously. We have a chapter that is devoted. Many people have allowed all these areas of their lives to get overly cluttered so that it can result in dysfunction. This audio-book seems to whittle back life to the basics so that life management becomes possible and joy rather than a daily financial strain.
