About this listen

As the Horus Heresy divides the Imperium, Corax and his few remaining Raven Guard escape the massacre at Isstvan V. Tending to their wounds, the bloodied Space Marines endeavour to replenish their numbers and return to the fray, taking the fight to the traitor Warmaster.

Distraught at the crippling blow dealt to his Legion, Corax returns to Terra to seek the aid of his father - the Emperor of Mankind. Granted access to ancient secrets, Corax begins to rebuild the Raven Guard, planning his revenge against his treacherous brother primarchs. But not all his remaining warriors are who they appear to be.

The mysterious Alpha Legion have infiltrated the survivors and plan to destroy the Raven Guard before they can rebuild and threaten Horus's plans.

I am literally this far into the Horus Heresy books and this was very well written, loved the narration and build up.

Loved it

Don't sleep on this one! A good first intro to the Raven Guard with a good dollop of Alpha Legion actually doing Alpha Legion stuff!

A well written spy tale

And I was not disappointed! I really enjoyed this audiobook and definitely think it’s worth a listen. Lots of internet people riled up about this one for some reason, but I loved it.

Another great story from Gav Thorpe and Black Library. Well acted, engaging, and immersive. Would highly recommend if you’re a fan of the series.

Another great addition

Thought this was a good turning point in the Horus series. I knew very little about the Raven guard and thought this was a good story and have a new respect for the Raven guard.

Very good Raven guard story

I have never been a fan of the ravenguard, honstely they looked and sounded like one of the worst legions there could of been. however that being said this novel has changed my mind on the raven guard, it's not the most exciting of the series but it shines a light on a very underwhelming legion and actually makes you care that they actually got slaughtered during the massacre compaired to vulkan lives which made my love for the salamanders quickly turn to hate.

a lot better then expected

This story adds to the Hersey plot arc. It seeds interesting ground for later developments. The narrator makes the best of some tedious word craft. If I heard the phrasing "Space Marine of the Adeptus Astartes" once I heard it FAR too many times. The writing also clearly had no concept of tactical communication protocol or how people in military services address each other. Sadly this seriously detracted from my enjoyment.

Good plot lost in IP heavy writing
