About this listen
A stand-alone story in the Shadow Beast Shifters world. Best listened to after Reborn for storyline continuity.
Melalekin "Angel" of the Honor Meadows has been a warrior her entire life. Battle. Death. Loss. They were her constant companions until the day she met Mera Callahan. A shifter who ended up being so much more. A shifter who changed her life, and now...she has been reborn. The scars of her past are gone. Her losses muted under the new life she plans on living.
There's just one being standing in her way. A grudge holding desert deity who has made an art form out of making her life hell.
Reece of the Desert Lands is a god unused to being defied, and he has a very long memory when it comes to those who wronged him. Angel is the one he blames for the worst loss in his life, and he'll never let her forget it. Their history is tragic and bloodied, and the pair is set to clash one more time, especially when they end up trapped in the very spot where they lost it all. A meeting of the dynasties in the Delfora, the ancient desert lands, will force them to the place it all began.
Here they will learn that sometimes the past defines your future. And that there is a fine line between love and hate.
Note: This is a stand-alone in the Shadow Beast world and does not end on a cliff-hanger. It is full-length, and it is advised to listen to the first three in the Shadow Beast Shifters series first (Rejected, Reclaimed, Reborn). This is an enemies-to-lovers story, with action, snark, antiheroes, and steam. It is recommended for 18+ due to storyline and situations.

Good but too similar
So I liked it but
Heck it it makes sense that it's "shadow the second" Becuase it might as well have been "Mira the second" as well. I loved Angel in the other books and there was a lot of potential in the story about her but honestly... It was just too simple and made her weaker and uninteresting character that basically ended up being the new Mira...
I miss the other Angel and I feel like this was written too fast and too much like a repeat if the previous...
It was good but lacked in depth.

enjoyable
after the 1st 3 books this one had some work to do and whilst I enjoyed the book very much I can understand the frustrations of some of the reviews.
This book is about Angel and Reece, we get to learn more about their history together and watch it forge a new path. Also some surprises thrown in, some good, some heart breaking moments also.
I think the thing I struggled with Is although Angel has been reborn she has lost a lot of her fire and whilst I understand this was a healing journey for her, bringing her a love she never understood and a gift she never thought she would have, she was somewhat... muted in this book.
also through no fault of the narrators here but shadow and meras voices are deeply ingrained in my head so hearing a different voice sounded off. However that being said they did very well on this book.. They told the story well I just feel like there was something.... missing The emotions felt a bit muted maybe, not sure if that was it.
I still really enjoyed this book and I am sure I will listen to it again.

#DesertAngel
This book was amazing to read, but listening to it is even better! The characters are really bought to life by the voice actors, and the pace was fantastic.

Deserted
A great second love story as Angel comes to terms with her losses, and Reace finally forgives her. After many battles with each other they join forces and battle the awakening Gods. Read brilliantly by Marnye Young and Jakobi Diem.

Brilliant addition to the series
The Shadowbeast series has really been fantastic to listen to. Yes they are sexy paranormal books but the characters are really engaging. The entire Shadowbeast universe and Solaris system is so clever. I was really pleased to find this standalone book about Angel. She is a strong badass warrior and her back story definitely deserved it's own book. This book did not dissapoint. I really do recommend this book. Be warned it is very sexually explicit but the storyline is definitely not your usual erotica. I would love to see this series a films. The world created by the author is rich with detail and really clever.

Another great story!
So, admittedly it threw me initially with the new voice actors voices for Shadow and Myra. But I soon got over that. The story itself was just as gripping and it was interesting to explore Angel and Reeses story while still keeping the family altogether facing a new threat.

Do I hate this book...NO, it's a nice book but it didn't scratch the itch for me...
ANGEL THE WORRIOR & REECE THE DESERT GOD STORY
YES, PLEASE, TAKE MY MONEY....
I really wanted to read this book.
I loved angel from the beginning she just stood out to me as a character, being a total badass warrior and a real best friend.
Then there was something about reece i just can't explain.... yeah, moody and grumpy, a shadow the second....im in, how could you not be?
well, we got the answers to Angle and Reece past history, but was it enough?
Nope, centuries of hate, bad blood, and being shuned out, all boiled down to a rather disappointing, let's leave the past in the past and be together, 'I love you'
Blarr blarr blarr...
It was still a shadowshine book 😕
.... now I like mera and shadow in this serise after all they started it all, but I felt they could have been left out of this book....the mera swooning and love obsession was too much even in the last book 🫣 I was happy to see her move on and just have someone else story told. (Plus, mera is so spoiled that it is sickening)
This could have been easy to do because mera is pregnant. I felt like that should have been the out for the author to just leave her behind so angel could have her own badass moment.
But no, it was still as always 'the mera show'
And I have always found mera to be very immature and childish, that's why I liked angel more.
It feels like a cheap out for easy storytelling for the author, I love the world and the characters she's created, but angel and reece deserved better.
...oh and kind of a cliff hanger for me because I really wanted to know what the sex of the baby/babies were and also is it gonna be twins 'they&them' got me thinking it might be but then again they don't know the sex so maybe not???
Lastly I was hoping this book was going to be more of the story of HOW angel and reece meet, like take me back in time please 🙏🏻 when they created their bond and there love story, that turned sour because of an epic battle/war to save the world...where angel losses everything including her family and then leaves reece behind because he asked too much her in her devistation to end up fighting alone.
I want the Abandonedment told from Reece and the Shame told by Angel to give me the feels and tears and a huge fight since in future of how the hate each other...when really they just want to 'love' each other "all night long"...
Now that could have been an epic story....like take me back to their youth....create new characters to go with it .....i wanted to meet angels sister 🥺 and know what she's lost and feel her pain.
I want to love this book so badly, but it was just brushed over.
