Summary
Welcome to Dim Sum Asylum: a San Francisco where it's a ho-hum kind of case when a cop has to chase down an enchanted two-foot-tall shrine god statue with an impressive Fu Manchu mustache that's running around Chinatown trolling sex magic and chaos in its wake.
Senior Inspector Roku MacCormick of the Chinatown Arcane Crimes Division faces a pile of challenges far beyond his human-faerie heritage - snarling dragons guarding C-Town's multiple gates and exploding noodle factories. After a case goes sideways, Roku is saddled with Trent Leonard, a new partner he can't trust, to add to the crime syndicate family he doesn't want and a spell-casting serial killer he desperately needs to find.
While Roku would rather stay home with Bob the Cat and whiskey himself to sleep, he puts on his badge and gun every day, determined to serve and protect the city he loves. When Chinatown's dark mystical underworld makes his life hell and the case turns deadly, Trent guards Roku's back and, if Trent can be believed, his heart...even if from what Roku can see, Trent is as dangerous as the monsters and criminals they're sworn to bring down.

Fantastic Fantasy
Such a perfect flight of fantasy with a lovely mix of murder mystery. Terrific story. Greg Tremblay has me lost for words. I can’t explain how perfect his narration was for me. He drew me into this story and I didn’t want to leave.

Wonderful combination of Rhys Ford & Greg Tremblay
Would you listen to Dim Sum Asylum again? Why?
Yes, I loved the story, and Greg Tremblay breathes life into the characters, just as with the fantastic Cole McGuiness series. A winning combination every time.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Dim Sum Asylum?
I loved it all, but some parts are funny, whilst the assassin fairy at the start, that's really chilling, and Greg Tremblay communicates the threat, the potential for real violence, the underlying menace.
Have you listened to any of Greg Tremblay’s other performances? How does this one compare?
I think he does a brilliant job, he's great with the Asian accents which make the stories so believable
Any additional comments?
Great read, great listen. Worth your money or a credit.

Good story
Good story, however only 10% is the plot, the other 90% is filler, mostly background information, how the main character feels etc.
Most of the story consists of a single line of the plot then pages of descriptions and how he is feeling and his feelings about other characters etc.

Ok - Kai Gracen by this author is much better though
I’ve just listened to the more recent series by this author, Kai Gracen, and absolutely loved it. I wanted to give more books by this author a go so thought I’d try this one as it is based on a similar type of world. However, this book seems like it was the author’s first go and they learned from the writing experience, and refined it, which is what made the Kai Gracen books so much better. I’d recommend potential readers skip this book and just get that series instead.
