Summary
The fabled ancient warriors of Tamuli had indeed returned - intent on carnage. Monsters and fell magics had followed, and the havoc and terror they spawned were tearing the empire apart. The empire had sent for the Pandion Knight who had killed the God Azash. If Sparhawk wanted to stop this danger before it could savage his own land, he now must lend his aid. Sparhawk, Ehlana, and their daughter, Princess Danae, agreed to make the grueling trek to the far-distant empire of the east. They traveled in company with a handful of trusted companions: the stalwart champions of the four Militant Orders, the knight Berit, Mirtai the giantess, and the young thief Talen. With the child-goddess Aphrael to speed their journey, they began the treacherous traverse of the utmost reaches of the Daresian continent, to Tamul's distant capital. There, in the emperor's glittering court, they would encounter corruption, treachery - and a greater danger than any man had faced before!

love the author
I love these books. I'm not 100% sure on the narrator of these 3 books. but It grows on you. not as good as the Dimoned throne narrator. That's my only issue.

nostalgic with a poor narrator
Bought these as I loved these books when I was a kid, read then repeatedly. However I find the story and characters quite simplistic now, still enjoyable and this could be down to my changing tastes as I've gotten older. The narrator did not help matters, he ruined many characters and sucked the humour out of many parts. Certain characters became annoying just from his narration alone, some attempts at different voices were laughable. From really bad Sean Connery impressions to Bugsey Malone. I don't like to say it but I really don't think American narrators do fantasy work very well. Give me Steven Pacey, Simon Ambrose or Sean Barrett any day.

Why change the narrator
I read the original series when I was young, I bought and loved listening to them on here. When I found he had continued the series I was ecstatic, until I started listening to the first of the new series and heard the narrator. Unfortunately his ability falls short of Greg Abby, I've never thought Sparhawk as being soft, but his narration feels the same for men and women so Sparhawk is no longer gruff. Common people are too well spoken, nope not good at all. Please don't change the narrator's, this one didn't even check the pronunciation of characters names before he started. Very disappointing.

Good story, poor performance
Great story and characters. Unfortunately poor narration, mixing names, changing names and mistakes in accents meant I was having to override those details in my head everytime they came up.
