Summary

A world on the precipice of the apocalypse. A secret forged in the flames of war. A chance to start over.

For John Sutton, only one of those three things matters.

Retired from a decade of brutal war, he wants nothing more than a quiet pastoral life while he does his best to stem the steady increase of his Doom Points before they hit 100, signaling the start of the end.

He’s been given a small farm on the outskirts of the empire as thanks for his service, but no matter how far he travels, it's impossible to escape the war's devastating effects on the world.

Bandits, suspicious townsfolk, a mysterious pair of siblings, and a secret that lurks in the mountains all threaten John’s peace. It will take all of his considerable power to keep from burning everything to the ground.

Don't miss the start of the next great Fantasy LitRPG Series by Seth Ring, author of Nova Terra. Pre-order your copy today and explore a world whose secrets have been buried under decades of war.

About the Series: Mixing slice-of-life with epic fantasy action, mystery, magic, cultivation, and a broken game system that seems determined to make everything as hard as possible for the already overpowered protagonist, this LitRPG/GameLit series is perfect for those who enjoy exploring rich worlds and complex characters.

Bring on the next book

I am loving this genre litrpg farming… but John is the coolest MC farmer ever, I can’t wait to see what he does next.

Enjoyable

A fairly fun listen, John is a bit clueless in how he expects to be able to live a quiet life. The character interaction is quite good and the pacing of the story is steady

Great story

Picked this book up on a whim and glad I did. Well paced story and well read. So a few days later purchased book 2 in the series.

I would recommend this book. Nothing like I expected, its better.

If the movie Unforgiven was a Isekai

Used my last credit on this. Very glad I did. Made me think of a Clint Eastwood western but set in a fantasy world. Good stuff.

An okay book

This is a good book about a retired mage who just wants to start a farm and live a normal life but not really as he also wants to find more magic and save the world. The protagonist has a serious personality so the slice of life revolves around him mostly being semi grumpy.

I personally think "Beware of chicken" is a better book as it also has a mage (cultivator) who starts a farm and has a slice of life to the story where the protagonist actually seems cheerful and wants nothing more than to start a normal life unlike the protagonist of this story. Oh and of course, both books have farm animals who are smart and shown to be in the other book.
