About this listen
Staff Sergeant Elijah Jackson, EJ to his friends, joined the air force hoping for refuge from the mess his life had become. For almost 10 years he enjoyed new life, success, and love, in spite of the closet he was forced to hide in by the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell military policy. One day it all comes crashing down around him. Now he’s back home with serious decisions to make and a very short time to decide how to salvage his life while healing his heart.
Betrayed by his lover and partner, Dr. Dale Chenault left California and his fledgling practice behind. In Sayville, he’s found a home for his counseling service, and on the surface, seems to have his life in order. The truth is some of the decisions Dale made have become a stumbling block in his ability to rebuild the breach in his heart and, by extension, his life.
When Dale and EJ, meet, the chemistry between them is hot, but the pain of past betrayals is strong, and trust seems impossible to build. Will they be able to move past what has been to create a future together?
Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is a story of love, trust, betrayal and second chances with an HEA.

John Solo is a gifted narrator and voice artist. He brings the character to life giving each their own voice and personality. I loved how he portrayed each character, how he humanized them by giving them a whole lot of heart, their emotions and mannerisms can be heard in his performance. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another awesome listen🎧

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, I’m over the half, but I listen enough to give a review.

MC’s... EJ (Elijah Jackson) and Dr Dale Chenault - Counselling practice
Novella length debut novel.
I was surprised and impressed to learn that Don’t Ask Don’t Tell was the author’s debut novel. Although only novella length she has managed to convey a great deal of interesting detail about the US military - Air Force in this case, and the appalling Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy which was still a legal policy only ten years ago. It’s beyond belief that human beings were treated in such a callous and cold hearted manner.
Miski Harris is either a brilliant military researcher or has some insider knowledge. Whatever, I found her subject fascinating and at no time did it veer off into the realms of boring. Her writing flows and it kept my interest.
If I have a criticism it is that the characters needed greater depth and their relationship more development. These two men were obviously ideal for one another and it was apparent from their first meeting that there was a spark and I kept expecting more, but Ms. Harris didn’t quite hit the spot of belief for me. However, I really liked how she drip fed EJ’s predicament and the betrayal of him by his former lover throughout the story. I also, liked how he ultimately got his comeuppance.
Dont’t Ask Don’t Tell was an excellent debut novel, just more development of the MC’s needed - for me anyway - otherwise a good and absorbing story. Miski Harris is definitely an author I shall look out for in the future, especially if she employs John Solo as her narrator. John is a talented and versatile voice actor and has many different voices in his arsenal, plus of course, he has one of the sexiest voices in the narrating world and is one of my current favourites.
An excellent debut novel
