Summary
In this major work of daring criticism and analysis, scholar and political commentator Marc Lamont Hill and Israel-Palestine expert Mitchell Plitnick spotlight how holding fast to one-sided and unwaveringly pro-Israel policies reflects the truth-bending grip of authoritarianism on both Israel and the United States. Except for Palestine deftly argues that progressives and liberals who oppose regressive policies on immigration, racial justice, gender equality, LGBTQ rights, and other issues must extend these core principles to the oppression of Palestinians. In doing so, the authors take seriously the political concerns and well-being of both Israelis and Palestinians, demonstrating the extent to which US policy has made peace harder to attain.
Hill and Plitnick provide a timely and essential intervention by examining multiple dimensions of the Israeli-Palestinian conversation, including Israel's growing disdain for democracy, the effects of occupation on Palestine, the siege of Gaza, diminishing American funding for Palestinian relief, and the campaign to stigmatize any critique of Israeli occupation. Except for Palestine is a searing polemic and a cri de coeur for elected officials, activists, and everyday citizens alike to align their beliefs and politics with their values.

Overall good
This is a good book on the conflict, and worth reading, though the narrator is poorly spoken.

Excellent content - terrible narration.
The book itself is very good and poignant for the current times. I feel that this book is applicable to the situation in the UK and how our left wing Labour government is behaving in similar ways. I am concerned that the narration may put people off as it sounds like it is being read by an AI computer.

A must read
An excellent overview of the Palestine/Israel conflict focusing on the how US policy has enabled and encouraged the Israeli Government to continue to oppress the Palestinian people.

Definitely worth a listen
I’m based in the UK, and this book mostly deals with US involvement – but in case anyone’s wondering, it’s still plenty informative.

Too Textbook like
Except For P@13$_ t1ñ3 by Marc Lamont Hill & Mitchell Plitnick
Booking Rating: ⭐️✨
A very short book but felt like 2 years worth of content. Tbcompletelyh, I only read/listened to this because it was free and it was about P@13$_ t1ñ3, otherwise I kinda wish I never did. It was all about American politics. I of course, only realised towards the end of the book that it was ALL American politics. Not me just waiting for the UK politics 🙈💀 But either way it was just so boring (although the BDS movement points and related stuff were quite interesting tbf)!
All kudos go to Marc L.H though. After looking him up, I read that he was fired from CNN for his UN speech, coming across a little TOO pro-P@13$_ t1ñ1-an for saying ‘4mth3🏞️r2th3-🌊’… which was seen as ant1s3m*tic?! Come off it man. The Zi0n1sts are Z10ning too much cmon!
The authors had a weird fetishisation of Trump I can’t lie. Fair enough, you hate the guy cause so do I! But I don’t make it my whole personality. Weird flex but it’s not like he isn’t the 2nd most pro-israHELLI supporter (Joe Biden being 1st ofc).
But yeah, other than having huge respect for the guy, I’m just not that into a deep dive into Politics; having finished the entire book though, I wouldn’t like to say that I’m still not that interested in it 😆 I like to think of myself as an academic, smart book guy who is one with the world and understands everything (clearly this book just outed me).
But this was too intricate and complicated for me. It felt more like a textbook rather than an general info-based book. Again, I know this sounds like I’m bashing the book but I’m reaaaallyyyy not. I bet there’s a lot of political readers out there! Yet I’m sure I’m just too dumb to understand it for what it is haha. I wouldn’t recommend this to someone new on the ğ3n0- c1d3… 😅
“To move beyond the current limits, we [the US government] must be willing to hold the Israeli government, not just right wing extremists, religious zealots or neighbouring regimes accountable for its actions in the region and especially for its denial of basic rights to Palestinians.” - Chapter 5: Conclusion - Beyond The Limits
