About this listen

From the author of the best-selling study of the 1948 War of Independence comes an incisive look at the Occupied Territories, picking up the story where The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine left off.

Published on the 15th anniversary of the Six-Day War that culminated in the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, Pappe offers a comprehensive exploration of one of the world's most prolonged and tragic conflicts. Using recently declassified archival material, Pappe analyses the motivations and strategies of the generals and politicians-and the decision-making process itself - that laid the foundation of the occupation. From a survey of the legal and bureaucratic infrastructures that were put in place to control the population of over one million Palestinians, to the security mechanisms that vigorously enforced that control, Pappe paints a picture of what is to all intents and purposes the world's largest "open prison".

I liked the detail of events and the clear rationale behind Pappe’s arguments. Be aware that there are lots of names and shifting positions which are difficult to keep track of, so you might need a notepad for the less well know ministers who make cameo appearances.

All in all a very insightful work that destroys some of the common misconceptions we are fed about the history of the ‘mega prison’ and the motives of those who upheld it.

Thoroughly recommend.

Essential reading, thorough and meticulous

A scholarly work that gives context, and provides understanding of the long strategic aims of Israel, and to the suffering and resistance of the Palestinian people

A masterful research

As with his other works this is a definitive record of Palestinian history. Ilan Pappé is essential reading. Today more than ever.

The definitive voice on Palestine

Must read book. Anyone who wants to understand the conflict in Middle East must read this book. Very instructive and informative on the failures of various peace processes and culprits thereof. Impressed by Dr Pappe’s research. This is my third book by him.

Anyone who wants to understand the conflict in Middle East must read this book.

The narration is great quality and clear, the book focuses quite a bit on the specific uses of land management, architecture, and infrastructure as a tool of occupation from chapters 2 to 6

Great narration.

Not for the faint hearted, it is a grim book with very little hope. But it is a good accurate logging of history.

Excellent resource

It's is so frustrating and heartbreaking that the Zionist project was/is allowed to happen. So much deceiving of not only Israeli citizens (who, for the most part, it seems, spout the same nonsense), but the entire world, especially Germans and Americans.
Israel never wanted peace. NEVER!
With the help of Western powers (direct or turning a blind eye), Israel has schemed to create a story of their innocence and righteousness from day one. LIES!

Blood Boiling (MUST READ)

I read this in an attempt to understand the current conflict in Gaza and the West Bank. It really puts things into perspective and makes you realise how evil successive Israeli governments have been and how complicit the rest of the world has been. I feel for the people of Palestine. I for one will not be visiting Israel until lasting and meaningful change has been implemented by the Israeli government.

The world is silent

This book tells the injustice and cruelty leashed upon the people of Palestine, and moral bankruptcy of rest of the world. Salute to the author of this book to highlight the truth of Zionist ideology and suffering of Palestinians by the state of Israel.

It makes you cry
