Summary
The ashes have fallen and the dust clears to a startling discovery....
Beyond the reach of the nuclear infernos, the masterminds survived and continue their assault on outposts across the Allied States. Timothy Temper and Sergeant Ruckley narrowly escaped one of those attacks. On the run from hostile forces, they fight to get an urgent message to command - the monsters aren’t the only threat. Their human allies have a nuclear weapon.
Refusing to hide underground, President Jan Ringgold heads to New York. Doctor Kate Lovato and her team are there working to infiltrate and sabotage enemy communications. To buy them time, S.M. Fischer and his engineers deploy technology to detect incoming Variant attacks. But they can’t hold the monsters for much longer.
Deep in enemy territory, Master Sergeant Fitzpatrick and Captain Beckham discover the terrifying truth behind the New Gods and a plan even more nefarious than eliminating the human race. This time, the future depends not just on the survival of Team Ghost, but their ability to convince new allies to join the fight before it’s too late.

Great follow on from previous books and building up to a great ending in the next and final book of the series, great story, great characters and a great narrator who brings everything together

Very Entertaining
All in all a great book in the series.
Has it’s up and downs like any other, can be overly negative in places and inconsistent in terms of the characters abilities. What I mean by this is in some situations the main characters are almost superhuman in terms of ability and decision making, and in others they are defeated easily, the same for the bad guys.
Saying that still a great listen.

Bleak
I get the point of the bleakness but come on, throw a dog a bone here. Even the Arisen books had Fick to lighten the mood when stuff got heavy.
1 more to go thank God.

absorbingly absorbing
just couldn't get enough, having Nicholas Sansbury-smith and Anthony J Melchiorri (2 of my favourite authors) in one spellbinding continuation of an amazing apocalypse series... WOW.. so invested in the characters.. need more, as a collaboration and singular authors.. is this the end for Beckham, Kate and Horn, or will the struggle continue??🤔 looking forward to what's next.

More 5 star reading
Another excellent addition to the Extinction Cycle series. Their is always the risk with extended story telling that the books become stale and repetitive but the authors continue to avoid this and once again are taking us down new roads with our favourite characters. Action packed as ever the new twists in the variants story opens up a whole new realm of possibilities in the fight against the New Gods and the survival of the Human Race.
