Summary
When a gruesome murder spree leads to the door of a teenage loser, she is forced to face the reality that something demonic is growing inside her.
Fallow Heart is the story of Lorelai Blake, a self-conscious, overweight 17-year-old who discovers that a demon has pierced her heart, sparking an incredible transformation. Sleepwalking, fits of rage, and impossible strength force Lori to accept that part of her is no longer human.
It was hard enough fitting in before, and now, the hurtful voice in her head has taken an even more sinister tone. Worse than this, bodies are being discovered. People in Chester are dying, and they have only one connection: a nocturnal killer who savages its prey.
When you're becoming more demonic by the day, it's what's on the inside that counts. Fallow Heart is a tale of strength, suspicion, and the supernatural for ages 14 and up.

a unique voice
| really enjoyed Farrow Heart, it had just the right mix of creepy, tense, murder mystery, supernatural twists, teen drama and family relations. The setting of Chester is perfect to give the story a slight gothic feeling, with the cobbled streets and old style buildings as well as helping to ground the narrative in the real world.
Lorelain is a great plus sized main character, learning to accept herself whilst fighting demons of her own as well as the physical demon that has become a part of her and finding her own internal voice and finding it to be kinder and cleverer than she ever gave herself credit to be. Watching her grow from a terrified, meek thing with a cruel internal monologue to someone who wants to take more control of their own destiny, to learn to use the demon power that is now a part of her and find a way to live with it is really lovely to see.
I really loved the queer representation within the book of her grandpa and his boyfriend being major positive influence's in her life and just all the families complete acceptance of them as a couple and the genuine affection they clearly have for the boyfriend, is refreshing to see.
The doubt woven throughout the text of Lorelai's true personality and intentions, as well as the characters she meets and the organizations she finds herself drawn into, add to the sense of unease as the story builds and we are unsure of who we can trust.
I also appreciated the variety of monsters and mythologies that have been drawn on to flesh out the world within Farrow Heart.
Cat Souto does a brilliant job of giving a very real, very human feel to the character of Lorelai and the world she inhabits and i look forward to hearing more work read by her.

Body Horror + Body Issues in a UK Fantasy Thriller
Great to have 'Fallow Heart' released in audio form and hear Lori Blake's sardonic insecure voice captured by narrator Cat Souto. The sweetness of her tone conveys Lori's youthful naivety, but there's a sharp edge to it that comes out in Lori's moments of terror and self-loathing. When we first meet Lori, she is waking up from a half-remembered attack in an alleyway with dim memories of a giant horned demon. The mysterious scar left on her chest tells her that this experience wasn't just a hallucination. And pretty soon Lori is being stalked by all manner of creepy strangers with rivaling agendas, not to mention a trail of blood and bodies that keeps leading back to her. And then there's the spiteful voice inside her own head that seems to grow more powerful and malicious by the day.
What I love most about Fallow Heart was the different levels this story operates on. First there's the horror layer, which is equal parts gruesome gore and psychological chills. Then as Lori begins to investigate all the demonic carnage suddenly surrounding her, it feels more like a fantastical detective story with its own captivating mythology. But put the supernatural elements aside and this novel could also be read as an allegory of a teenage girl struggling with body issues and low self-esteem. Lori clearly has demons long before her heart is marked by one, but I love how her mental health struggles were amplified through the magical storytelling. I also love how this metaphor was extended through the different conditions that the other 'Sown' kids are suffering with at the DC clinic.
I'd recommend this story to fans of dark urban fantasy, particularly Audible listeners who've enjoyed supernatural YA horrors such as Sawkill Girls and Anna Dressed In Blood.

Couldn't stop myself!
I've never been one for books and often find myself struggling to concentrate when I've read in the past. I was lucky enough to be given an opportunity to listen to this book written by K. C. Finn and my goodness I couldn't bring myself to press pause!
You're thrown right into it from the start but she keeps you guessing and wanting to know more. You really appreciate the the main characters growth throughout and feel for her as she tries to cope with her new existence. I loved the theme of the story and the characters used, enough for depth but not overwhelmed with names or bodies. Perfect for someone who would normally lack concentration. And what a twist! Subtle little hints that lead you in one direction and bam! You're hit with a completely different ending. Loved it! :D
The narrator, Cat Souto, was the perfect fit for this. I loved listening to her voice and she brought life to the characters. The story just kept getting better... And darker.
I finished (listening to) this book in two days, a record for me! I've finally found a genre and author I can follow and really appreciate.

gripping and thrilling
so I didn't know what to expect and to be honest I didn't think this would be up my street. However I'm glad to be wrong. The mystery aspects grabbed my interest and I ended up marathoning it. I like the ideas and creativity as well as the attention to detail.
I found the characters very real and I really felt.for some of what the lead was going through.
If you like urban fantasy I would recommend. Yes there is horror but the intregue is enough to carry it.
The performance was also very good. Very clear and excentuates the emotions of the book.
Im really excited to read the next one!
