Farewell to the East End
An interesting look back to a time when poverty and large families were prevalent in London’s East End. I’ve not watched the tv series that came out of these books but I may now as I enjoyed listening to this.
So much sadness but happiness also...

What an amazing woman
I have loved these books so much! It’s hard to imagine what like was like only 60 years ago. Theses stories are told so well with amazing graphics details. Totally recommend

Wonderful
I loved this book so much, so evocative. The narration was good but not a patch on Juliet Stevenson who narrated the first two books

Enjoyed it with reservation
As a midwife myself I much enjoyed listening to the minutiae of midwifery in the fifties. However, the mispronunciation of many of the obstetric/midwifery terms was irritating to say the least. On a few occasions I only realised what the word was because of the context. But despite this It was a jolly good listen.

Fantastic insight into yesteryear.
After listening to the first 2 books, I had to listen to this too. I enjoyed the different stories that were told and how the description of people and places took you there too. London in deed was far from how it is now but despite all the hardships people had to endure they seemed happy.
I was glad to here at the end updates about all the different nurses and midwives and how their own lives had planned out. I found that very touching and a very poignant way to end this book aptly named Farewell to the Eastend.
However the first two books were read by what seemed more mature voices who spoke clear and a lot slower than the narration on this one. It didn't seem to fit listening to a younger voice talk about yesteryear and was a lot faster too which for me was hard to follow. Thank god for the speed option! Once turned down a notch it was fine and after a while the younger voice grew on me and I was able to enjoy the accounts given.
Overall....I would recommend this to a friend as a must purchase if read call the midwife and shadows of the workhouse.

Thought it was "Call The Midwife"
Didn't read the details properly so I thought this was "Call the Midwife".
Nevertheless it was very good. Not so much about the work of the midwives but more about the setting in which they were working, the views of the time and the living conditions of their ladies.
Very interesting.
