Summary

May, 1982. Britain celebrates the sinking of the Belgrano, Jimmy Savile has the run of the airwaves and Denton Police Division welcomes its first black policeman, DC Waters -- recently relocated from Bethnal Green. While the force is busy dealing with a spate of local burglaries, the body of fifteen-year-old Samantha Evans is discovered in woodland next to the nearby railway track. Then a fifteen-year-old boy is found dead on Denton's golf course, his organs removed. Detective Sergeant Jack Frost is sent to investigate -- a welcome distraction from troubles at home. And when the murdered boy's sister goes missing, Frost and Waters must work together to find her... before it's too late.

The Frost Prequels

Any additional comments?

As a long-time devotee of the R. D. Wingfield books about DI Frost I have enjoyed James Henry's prequels, this being the third in the series and the best so far. Henry has managed to capture the essence of life in the Denton Police Station and the characters of Jack Frost (and Superintendent Mullet !) ring true to those in the original books (being less sanitised than those in the TV series). I believe there is a fourth book in preparation and I look forward to reading it in due course.

Enjoying these Frost Prequels.

Enjoying these early years of Jack Frost it's good to get a background view of the character that match well to the original R D Wingfield character.

Narration by Stephen Thorne is excellent.

Recommended.

What a brilliant story.

None of the sexist comments which were so needless and offensive in the wingfield book I had last month.
I am not a feminist, just a normal person who likes a good story. This one filled the bill.

Great housework and gardening aid!

Great story, and good reading. I would have given it 5*but for the fact of some infuriating jumpy bits

Almost a period piece

Would you listen to Fatal Frost again? Why?

A great listen with interwoven threads coming together for an entertaining book. Were the police really like that in the 1980s? Probably!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Fatal Frost?

References to 1980s culture in Britain and so many humorous flashes

What about Stephen Thorne’s performance did you like?

He was brilliant and kept up a repertoire of excellent persona throughout

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Made me chuckle and laugh out loud on many occasions

Any additional comments?

Overall a really entertaining listen
