Summary
Graeme only wanted a pint.
He'd even have taken one of those fruity craft beers in a pinch, but it seemed Fate had other plans...which is strange, because as it turns out, Graeme is possibly the only being in the universe unaffected by the otherwise divine and tangible force of destiny. Immune to its machinations, he is Fateless.
So, when he inadvertently disrupts his best friends summoning into another world, the Gods offer him a choice. Fix the mistake, or sentence said friend and world he's destined to save to a particularly nasty end.
Reborn into a new world in the body of Minotaur, Graeme will have to survive frozen wastes, vicious slavers, and perilous dungeons. All whilst adapting to strange game-like powers, delivered and explained to him by an overly enthusiastic voice in his head.
It's not all bad news though. Sure he might be the only Scotsman he knows with horns, but this lack of Fate seems to come with some benefits. The ability to wreak havoc with the pre-ordained plans of the Gods might just give him the edge he needs.
Guess the pint will have to wait.

Unique addition
A bit of a different breed of LitRPG than the usual power fantasies and Gary Sues we normally get.
We have a standard isekai reincarnation and a goddess representing fate, and then we have a MC that's been told he's NOT the Hero but he has killed him.
He makes his way through the opening chapters well enough only to be immediately outclassed and taken captive, which he has to break free from while piecing together how his new world works.
Meaty, violent and filled with a good blend of humor and serious.
Enjoyable listen, will probably pick up the next one.

Great Storytelling and a fun read/listen
Really enjoyed this book. The storytelling was excellent, switching between serious and funny moments well which helped keep the pacing interesting. Great first book to the series and I can’t wait to see what follows!

Moovalous story
Really interesting world based on everyone but MC having a predetermined fate. The progression system is also nicely implemented. Excellent start to a series.

an impressive first entry
a great addition to the genre and a strong first piece by the author. good pace of progression and a world that feels alive, with a sense of so much more to come. definitely worth a purchase, and I look forward to what comes next

You can’t help but love the characters
Although it’s fantasy, the characters seem so real with how they feel and interact. Great storytelling and a series that I am excited to see progress

Could not finish - got to around half of the book
I could only listen to half of the book. No offense to the author with what I am about to say! Please take it as constructive criticism.
For the majority of the book I felt lost. Characters are being introduced and described more than others but they are not actually part of the story (the slavers chief half orc girl).
I understand that the system is supposed to be confusing for the characters, and the author wanted to give us a dose of that, but it's too much. Not a lot makes sense. I still can't understand how Ghram can speak to his companions after the collars get removed.
I can't understand why the need for 2 names for Ghram. It's just so confusing.
It also feels confusing when the narration changes from 3rd person to 1st person.
After half the book I am really lost and I can say I only know 3 characters, and even then, that's about it.
The Angus part of the story is boring and doesn't bring anything to the table, at all. Feels like filler and I felt that the author takes me for a fool with the switches. Unpleasant.
The narration was good, but the range for the female characters is lacking.

Great introduction to the genre!
As a newcomer to the genre I was a bit apprehensive about diving into this but I absolutely loved it. Within a few chapters I had a great feel for the way the world worked. Narration was also fantastic although I can understand some Scottish words can be hard ;)
Very much looking forward to book two!

Interesting story... but!
The first few hours or so of the audiobook, i had to reduce the speed to 0.9x as the scottish accent was difficult to grasp at first.. but later i did return the speed to my normal speed of 1.1x.
The story itself i felt was generally very slow paced, which often made me feel lost and bored. and i wanted to quit it many times, but the story really came to fruition in the last 10 chapters or so... which might make me return for a Book 2.
i really didnt like and understand the gemstone approach to ranks, as i have no connection to how gemstones would be ranked, which led to alot of confusion about how strong/weak different characters were. instead of just using the "normal" iron, bronze, silver etc.
