About this listen
A missing child returns. But who took him?
BBC Radio 2 Book Club choice 2019.
Sunday Times Crime Club pick.
When 11 year old, Evan, vanishes without trace, his parents are plunged into their worst nightmare.
Especially as the police, under massive pressure, have no answers. But months later, Evan is unexpectedly found, frightened, and refusing to speak. His loving family realise life will never be the same again.
DI Naylor knows that unless those who took Evan are caught, other children are in danger. And with Evan silent, she must race against time to find those responsible....
A gripping, heart-wrenching thriller, with the emotional power of series like Broadchurch and The Missing, this is the perfect read for fans of Cara Hunter, Heidi Perks, Claire Douglas, Fiona Barton, Susan Lewis and Nuala Ellwood

I thought the narration was excellent .
I sometimes struggle with the narration in audible books , often finding parts a little irritating but Lucy Paterson’s narration was faultless throughout .
The story was well written and easy to listen to .

Great, intriguing, well written story.
Enjoyed every minute of this.
Not an author I’ve come across before but writes a compelling tale about a missing boy, then found and what goes on afterwards.
Emotional at times, the story never dips and kept me interested all the way through.
Would definitely recommend.

brilliant
a new author to me but so glad I found this book. a refreshing new way to tell a missing child story. it didnt need the tired formats of, policemen damaged by drink drugs, divorce, accusations etc. or the so often unnecessary gratuitous violence that mars a good book. The chilling details are never told which in a way makes the impact of the events more vivid. ones own imagination does it better.it is a story of a missing boy told by the police, parents and grandparents, during the events and after the headlines fade. the effect on their lives throughout the case so well written that one could almost imagine it to have been a true story. also what was very special was that it had a hopeful conclusion. Such a great read.

An interesting book which was compelling j
it seems difficult and hard to say I enjoyed the read because of the subject matter. it was a coming of age book that covered all the aspects of life after a trauma every mother dreads.
The book was compelling and difficult reading at times as a family falling apart comes to terms with the obstacles and relationships that change and the dread of what the future holds.
The narrative was good and the accents and change of voice for each character was convincing. A slight hiccup with geography didn't detract from the enjoyment of the book. It was enjoyable in spite of thesubject matter which was delivered in a sensitive manner
I don't want to give too much away but in amongst all of the grief I felt like there was hope.
it was a very good listen and difficult to turn off. in paper i would describe it as a real page turner. well worth the read. I haven't had any experience of this author but I will certainly be looking out for further stories.

Fantastic narrator
I enjoyed the story but it was particularly brought to life by the narrator by using different accents and idiosyncrasies for each character.
Trigger warning - the book refers to abuse & paedophilia (though not at great length)

Moving
Harrowing and moving at the same time. Realistic characters and well paced storyline. Moved to tears with Jack and Dora.
