About this listen

For fans of David Sedaris, Tina Fey and Caitlin Moran comes Furiously Happy from Jenny Lawson, author of the number-one New York Times best seller Let's Pretend This Never Happened.

In Let's Pretend This Never Happened, Jenny Lawson regaled listeners with uproarious stories of her bizarre childhood. In Furiously Happy, she explores her lifelong battle with mental illness. A hysterical, ridiculous book about crippling depression and anxiety? That sounds like a terrible idea. And terrible ideas are what Jenny does best.

As Jenny says: 'You can't experience pain without also experiencing the baffling and ridiculous moments of being fiercely, unapologetically, intensely and (above all) furiously happy.' It's a philosophy that has - quite literally - saved her life.

Jenny's first book, Let's Pretend This Never Happened, was ostensibly about family, but deep down it was about celebrating your own weirdness. Furiously Happy is a book about mental illness, but under the surface it's about embracing joy in fantastic and outrageous ways. And who doesn't need a bit more of that?

Great .. but not for me

It’s a very funny book, which is unusual but also brilliant and Jenny Lawson is a great narrator. However it’s just not for me, I think it’s just not what I was looking for at this time. Maybe I’ll try again in a couple of months

Explaining bad things that happen to us in a funny way

A fresh new angle to see life. I could never live with someone like Jenny Lawson, but from the longest stick distance possible I thought she was very funny.

Everything!

My therapist recommended this book to me because I reminded her of the author after 10 minutes of talking and she is spot on.

Unusual and fantastic

Hearing Jenny Lawson read her own story is brilliant. The book provides an amazing insight into mental health struggles. Fascinating and inspiring!

Whimsical

A good read for lasses that swear a lot, as a bloke I was a bit disappointed. it's me not you. J
On the plus side, it will add to the Jenny Lawson get another cat fund. J
Maybe I'll read Jenny Lawsons future book with the chapter called "Dad, Stuff the President"

Had to return

I only got about 30 minutes in, then thought I would try my best for another 30 minutes thinking that it would get better... I was WRONG!

The narrator does the typical American Female teenager Vocal Fry thing... which I find completely unacceptable for an adult to speak in this way no matter where you live in the world.

Nails on a chalkboard!

Horrible narration, great content

It’s a shame that the narration is so horrible while the content is great and important. I had to skip chapters because I found her upspeak unbearable. It’s like listening to high school girl. It’d be better to have someone else read it because I felt seen abs heard by what she said. Will read the book instead and I suggest you do the same.
