About this listen
Getaway with Murder is the first in a cozy series from Diane Kelly set in a lodge in the Blue Ridge Mountains, where secrets hide behind every hill.
As if hitting the half-century mark wasn't enough, Misty Murphy celebrated her landmark birthday by amicably ending her marriage and investing her settlement in a dilapidated mountain lodge at the top of the Blue Ridge Mountains. With the old inn teetering on both a bluff and bankruptcy, she must have lost her ever-loving mind.
Luckily, handyman Rocky Crowder has a knack for rehabbing virtual ruins and for doing it on a dime, and to Misty's delight, the lodge is fully booked on opening night, every room filled with flexible folks who'd slipped into spandex and ascended the peak for a yoga retreat with plans to "namastay" for a full week. Misty and her guests are feeling Zen - at least until the yoga instructor is found dead.
With a killer on the loose and the lodge's reputation hanging in the balance, Misty must put her detective skills to the test. Only one thing is as clear as a sunny mountain morning - she must solve the crime before the lodge ends up, once again, on the brink.

Murder retreat
I enjoyed this book but two things annoyed me. One was all the quotes at the start of each chapter, I couldn't see that they really had any reference to the story and the other thing was even now and again you had a chapter from the cats perspective. Why? It wasn't as if the car helped solved the crime. It was almost like the author had a word count she had to meet and didn't know what to bulk it out with. To be honest it I had been reading the book after the first two or three I would have just skipped them. Otherwise I liked the book. Misty was a great main character and I liked her. It was nice to have a fifty year old woman, who despite her marriage not working out was capable of going it alone in a new situation and wasn't second guessing every decision. The guests were an unusual bunch too. The mystery worked well, with plenty of suspects and I had no clue who the killer was until the main character worked it out. Which she did, instead of stumbling over the answer when the killer tried to kill her. I will be joining this series again.
With her marriage over and her son's all grown up, Misty decides its time to live her life and do something she wants. That means packing up her cat and moving to blue ridge, to buy an old run down lodge that she spent many happy vacations at. When she gets it up and running, her first set of guests are a group of people on a yoga retreat. Things don't go to plan though, when the head instructor is found dead. With no way for an intruder to get into the lodge at night, Misty knows one of her guests is responsible. But which one? She might have been the owner of the yoga business but she wasn't the easiest person to get on with. Can Misty and her new handyman help the police and find the killer before her guests check out?
I liked the narrator. She helped to bring the characters to life by giving them each there own individual sounding voice.

Loved this!
This book was a real breath of fresh air. I love Diane Kelly’s House Flipper Mystery series and this book is just as good. Can’t wait to listen to the sequel.
