The son of a wealthy hedge fund manager and a financier, he grew up surrounded by a loving family and all the luxury an Upper East Side childhood could provide: education at the elite Buckley School and Deerfield Academy, summers in a sprawling seaside mansion in the Hamptons. He was strikingly handsome, moving with ease through glittering social circles and following in his father's footsteps to Princeton. His friends saw him as a leader; his parents adored him.
But Tommy always felt different, and the cracks in his façade began to show. What started as quiet exhaustion turned into warning signs of OCD, increasing paranoia, and - most troubling - an indescribable, inexplicable hatred of his father. As his parents begged him to seek psychiatric help, Tommy pushed back by self-medicating with drugs and escalating violence. boring book
Love this narrator but I found this book boring. The story went on and I found it hard to listen to in parts.

Boring
After listening to the prologue, the rest of the book was largely pointless. There was no mystery to solve, no unexpected twists, no jeopardy, no edge of the seat moment.
Just a sad account of a sad life.

The other half
This showed no matter how much money you have, things can fail. I still can’t make my mind up if he was just a selfish brat or ill, but either way money couldn’t help him

Fascinating and detailed account of a human tragedy
This is a fascinating insight into the failure of a judicial system when faced with a defendant who is mentally ill. It’s also reveals how difficult it is to get appropriate help for an adult with mental health problems which I’m sure will resonate with anyone who has faced those challenges.
I thought an English narrator was an odd choice.

Good listening
Regardless of his mental illness, I believe he was a spoilt, extremely selfish person, and to kill his loving father in a cold blood was absolutely heartbreaking

A very sly & spoiled young man.
I love listening to these whodunits, I'm glad the jury was able to see right through him. Also I loved listening to the narrator

Why is the narrator Australian?!
Gave up as the narrator spoke in an Australian accent when it’s about Americans in America. Had to stop listening.
