About this listen
Julia Buckley needs a miracle. Like a third of the UK population, she has a chronic pain condition. According to her doctors, it can't be cured. She doesn't believe them. She does believe in miracles, though. It's just a question of tracking one down.
Julia's search for a cure takes her on a global quest, exploring the boundaries between science, psychology and faith with practitioners on the fringes of conventional, traditional and alternative medicine. From neuroplastic brain rewiring in San Francisco to medical marijuana in Colorado, Haitian vodou rituals to Brazilian 'spiritual surgery', she's willing to try anything. Can miracles happen? And, more importantly, what happens next if they do?
Raising vital questions about the modern medical system, this is also a story about identity in a system historically skewed against 'hysterical' female patients and the struggle to retain a sense of self under the medical gaze. Heal Me explains why modern medicine's current approach to chronic pain is failing patients. It explores the importance of faith, hope and cynicism and examines our relationships with our doctors, our beliefs and ourselves.

Beautifully written, enlightening, grips you until the end. An important book, not just for those grappling with pain.

A diamond in the mud...
...or as Julia/Rumi phrases it 'the wound is where the light gets in' I think is the quoted phrase.
I first listened to this at a time when I felt hopeless, I enjoyed going on the journey with Julia and it helped restore me on my path back to hope and so I listened to it again the following year. I can't tell you how much healing is in this book, so many gems and it's narrated really well too.

Thank you Julia Buckley 🙌🙌🙌
I found this book quite by accident. It's not the usual crime thriller type of thing i tend to go for but the title intrigued me, so instead of skipping past (like I usually would) I read the synopsis and realised as a sufferer of a chronic pain condition I had to give it a go.
Oh my frigging days!! I could not believe the things I heard, I suffer with the same condition as Julia and she could have written this book about me. The life experiences are different of course, but the explanation of pain, attitude of doctors and consultants, effectiveness of pain meds, miracle of cbd oil etc is all the same.
I cried my way through most of this book because it seemed so personal. Thank you so much Julia. And Lucy for narrating it so well. This book is a definite must for chronic pain sufferers, it certainly helped my bed bound day easier to endure. I think it should also be made reccomended reading for new doctors so that they understand the real concept of how chronic pain actually affects us.

I really didn’t like this book
The content just didn’t flow. It was drab and annoying. I really expected Julia to be motivated into finding a cure and subsequently be informative with her findings. This just isn’t how I found it at all.
