Summary
Fresh from finishing the Marathon des Sables, Ranulph Fiennes has become the oldest Briton to complete this ultimate endurance test. The world's greatest living explorer, he has travelled to some of the most remote, dangerous parts of the globe. Well known for his experiences at the poles and climbing Everest, he has also endured some of the hottest conditions on the planet, where temperatures regularly exceed 40 degrees and, without water and shelter, death is inevitable.

Good story
Enjoyable and interesting, good accounts of desert conditions. Rather spoilt by poor reading in parts.

Astonishing and informative
A heady mix describing testing the limits of human endurance through exploration of Africa and the middle east, the political and cultural contexts of the regions and the history of exploration, all seen through the lens of a man who breaks all moulds in challenging himself. Impressive, inspiring, informative, entertaining.

chance missed, Ranulph is the greatest narrator of his own storys
why Ran hasn't read this book himself is beyond me, brilliant story told by third person doesn't amek sense to me

An extraordinary account ..
A fascinating journey through the history of the Middle East through the eyes of a true explorer, and by that I mean those put aside the trappings of life to achieve goals many would feel are unobtainable or absurd. The style won’t suit all listeners but I would urge anyone to absorb these pages because they are gold and belong to an age we won’t see again.

They don't make em like this anymore!
I once met Ranulph Fiennes at an event. He was full of anecdotes in a captivating speech. I knew then that I had to download this book.
