About this listen

An unsolved crime pits a desperate woman against a relentless killer in New York Times bestselling author Mary Burton’s heart-stopping novel of psychological suspense…

Fourteen years ago, Kaitlin Roe was the lone witness to the abduction of her cousin Gina. She still remembers that lonely Virginia road. She can still see the masked stranger and hear Gina’s screams. And she still suffers the guilt of running away in fear and resents being interrogated as a suspect in the immediate aftermath. Now Kaitlin has only one way to assuage the pain and nightmares—by interviewing everyone associated with the unsolved crime for a podcast that could finally bring closure to a case gone cold.

But when a woman Kaitlin questions is later found stabbed to death, she fears that she’s drawn a killer out of hiding. It’s Detective John Adler’s fear that the murders have only just begun. Now his job is to keep Kaitlin safe.

As a bond between Kaitlin and Adler builds, the past closes in just as fast—and it’s darker than Kaitlin remembers. Soon, her wish will come true. She’s going to find out exactly what happened to Gina. Someone has been dying to tell her.

Sweet little detective story

I enjoyed this story but I have to admit the narration made me chuckle. Some of the voices and accents were amusing. However, it didn't put me off enough not to be able to listen. It was more like I had a friend and they were recording the audio of male voices for fun and I could laugh at it.
I felt the ending was quite swift. More climax would have been good but overall it was an enjoyable listen. I would give it a solid 3.5 so I've rounded it up to 4.

Interesting idea of writing a podcast

Although it is an interesting idea of writing a podcast, I felt that it didn’t add to the story. The story itself was interesting and there were a number of sympathetic characters and twists.
I would like to know more about Logan!

This is an exciting read

I have to confess to being a real Mary Burton fan and wait eagerly for her books to come out. She is an excellent writer who tells a great suspense story and this one does not disappoint. The story is solid and the characters very believable. I recommend this author to anyone who enjoys Karen Rose.

No stunning twists

Reasonable plot, but not stunning twists or revaluations. Some character development but ultimately quite chiche
