About this listen
After her philandering husband's boat went down, newly single Mia Carina went back to Astoria, the bustling Queens neighborhood of her youth. Living with her nonna and her oversized cat, Doorstop, she's got a whole new life - including some amateur sleuthing...
Mia is starting work at Belle View, her father's catering hall, a popular spot for weddings, office parties, and more - despite the planes that occasionally roar overhead on their way to LaGuardia and rattle the crystal chandelier. Soon she's planning a bachelor party for a less-than-gentlemanly groom. But it goes awry when the gigantic cake is wheeled in and a deadly surprise is revealed...
Since some of her family's associates are on the shady side, the NYPD wastes no time in casting suspicion on Mia's father. Now, Mia's going to have to use all her street smarts to keep him out of Rikers Island...

Great story
I absolutely loved this book. It was a good read and a fun story. I do understand why some of the readers meant by the performers voice. That is the only reason I marked the performance down to 4 stars. Enjoy.

Nobody messes with the family
I enjoyed this book. I really liked the characters. The mafia connection was a hoot, with the threat of violence hanging over everybody's heads all the time but never actually realized. Actually they just acted like one large family that cared about each other. Add in a dose of humour, a kidnapping, a missing pet and a couple of murders and you get a fun book. The mystery was interesting and took a number of twists, so much so that I had no idea who the killer was but with the demanding and whacky clients and I am surprised it didn't turn out to be Mia herself. A series I will be joining again.
When Mia's husband disappears in a boating accident she returns back home to her family. In more ways than one. Can she work in her father's catering business? She hopes that with her on board the business will stay legit and he can stay out of trouble. The only problem is her first planed party, a bachelor party ends with a dead body and the police knocking on her door. The dead woman is found with a check from her father clutched in her hands and the police focus on on her father. Can Mia keep her father out of jail with not only the police looking at him but also a reporter with something to prove. Planning parties quickly looks like the easiest thing in her life to do.
I liked the narrator. She did some good voices which helped sell the story.
