About this listen

Chris Lomax swore he’d never return to Saugatuck, but nothing could have prevented him from coming home to the small lakeside town, not once he saw the news about the fire - and Hunter, the only person ever to steal his heart. He must make sure Hunter is okay, and service dog Lucy could lend a helping paw.

Firefighter Hunter Drake never expected to see Chris again. He thought he’d lost his best friend for good when Chris jilted Hunter’s sister at the altar. But right now Hunter needs to focus on his recovery. What he doesn’t understand is why Chris came back - and why he won’t leave.

The two men get to reconnect, but spending so much time together leaves Hunter confused and uncertain, especially when Chris reveals he’s both bi and in love with him. Hunter’s not sure what to do about that last part.

What Chris wants is for Hunter to forgive him.

What Hunter needs is to stop living in denial.

Yeah, as if it was ever going to be that easy...

All about hope and forgiveness...

This sweet story is all about redemption, forgiveness and hope....
This is such a heartwarming story with a town full of colourful and fabulous characters.
5 years earlier Chris made an unforgivable mistake in his hometown, and had no option but to leave , in disgrace. He broke his fiancee's heart, his best friend's heart and his parent's hearts. All in all Chris was in a whole heap of mess, so he stayed away, for 5 whole years....
An unexpected event brings Chris rushing back to town, the minute he heard that his friend's life was put in danger all thoughts of fear and shame left in a rush. He knew he had so many people he had to face, but he had a secret weapon, Lucy his Alsation. She always knew who needed her the most, and how to diffuse any awkward situation.
Chris had never dreamt that his homecoming would turn out like it did.
Why had he stayed away so long ?
These beautiful people loved him regardless,
But best of all , how did he not know how the love of his life had always felt about him, for all those years.

Kc Wells always writes these small town, deep love stories effortlessly, and John Solo always brings everything to life magically. Another beautiful story that will leave it's mark in your heart.

All the feels!!!

Story: Wow. I hadn't read the blurb, didn't really know anything going into this book other than the fact I love both the writer and narrator. K.C. has another hit with this one. Her characters and their personalities are so real, you get invested pretty quickly. I adored Chris, and was rooting for him from the start, even when I didn't quite agree with him. Hunter - my heart broke for Hunter. I also wanted to throttle him, slap them both silly, and lock them in a darn shed or something! This was such a good storyline, great likeable characters, and it left me walking away swoony and smiling.

Narration: Some of John Solo's best work to date (and that's something, from me, as I've always loved his performances). The emotion: despair, desperation, longing, anxiety, fear, love, - you heard and felt it in the subtle nuances in the narrator's voice. John not only brought these characters to life, he made you FEEL their hearts. GET THIS BOOK! You won't be sorry. It's a wonderful second chance story of mistakes, regrets, redemption, and renewal. All the stars!

Always here for you

This is a great best friends to lovers, second chance and first time, I love Chris and Hunter’s story. Chris past mistakes forced him to flee his hometown but went he returns to makes things right with his parents, Callie and Hunter.

He finds himself still in love with Hunter but affair to confess his love for him, Hunter is a firefighter who recently has an accident in a rescue and all of this become hard for him and doesn’t wants to acknowledge his PSTD. Chris is a dog trainer and his dog Lucy is adorable, he want to help Hunter but he doesn’t know how. They journey together is so emotional and hard for the two of them but at the end I was so happy went they get together!!! I love the book and I highly recommended this audiobook, the narrative of John Solo Is amazing and I really enjoy it!

Enjoyable second chance, friends to lovers romance

KC Wells is one of my favourite authors when it comes to a sweet, slow burn romance. Here for you sees Chris return to town several years after leaving his best friend's sister at the alter. Unfortunately he left his heart with Hunter, not Callie as everyone would have thought. On his return to town there are surprises in store with how his parents and Callie react to him and revelations about himself. The one man he wants to reconnect with makes is hard for him but it's oh so worth it in the end.
The is a lot of emotion going on throughout the story for both men - guilt, fear, relief, love. As well as dealing with Chris's return, Hunter is dealing with the physical and mental aftermath of a rescue during his job as a firefighter. The writing really shines a light on mental health and men's perceptions on how they should deal with what they are feeling.
I love all of the characters involved in this book but a special place is held for Lucy, Chris's beautiful golden retriever who is so aware and helpful to those around her, and Callie, Hunter's sister. She has a remarkable outlook on everything that has gone on and plays an important role in how things pan out for Chris especially, on his return to town.
Definitely a recommended read/listen.
John Solo gives a wonderful performance for all involved and he really carries the story very well through the intense highs and lows that Chris and Hunter go through, individually and together as friends and a couple as they move forward to a HEA.

I loved the book, now I love the audiobook!

I loved this book so much when I read it and when I found out that John Solo would be performing it, I couldn't wait to listen to it. I probably sound like a broken record but I really love the audiobooks I've listened to that John has done. He is in my top five favorite audiobook performers. He brings so much emotion to the characters in this story. I listened to whole thing straight through while I worked around the house. John Solo and K.C. Wells are a fantastic combination!

Below is what I wrote about the book when I read it back in April, 2020.

Here for You is a sweet, slow burn story about second chances. It features three of my favorite romance tropes: second chances, friends-to-lovers and gay-for-you/out-for-you.

Chris and Hunter were best friends growing up and Chris was supposed to marry Hunter's sister, Cally. No one knows why Chris left Cally at the altar or why he ran away and left town. It's five years later and Chris has returned because he heard that Hunter was injured fighting a fire; he had to see for himself that Hunter was OK.

Hunter isn't happy to see Chris; he'd never really forgiven him for leaving town the way he did – with no explanation. His feelings are all mixed up and coping with the after-effects of the fire and Chris being in his space aren't helping him any.

This story got me right in the feels. Chris really wants to make amends for leaving town the way he did. His parents don't give him too much of a hard time and, much to his surprise, neither does Cally. Hunter is the only one he cares about that still won't let him apologize. Seeing these two struggle to come to terms with everything going on in their lives was at times heartbreaking but ultimately uplifting.

Chris's dog Lucy was a huge part of this story. She can sense when she's needed and she provides a lot of comfort, especially to Hunter. I know someone with a service dog like this and it's amazing what her dog can do to help so I knew that Lucy's role in the story was spot on.

A copy of this audiobook was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

Wonderful Story & Listen🎧 Enthralling & Heartfelt!

I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful story, it captured both my attention and my heart from start to end. K.C. Wells is a gifted author, her storylines and characters are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with. I love her ability to bring you along side the characters allowing you to see what they see and feel what they feel. I adored the two lead character Chris Lomax and Hunter Drake, secondary characters were pretty awesome too, a great support cast. Chris left town after leaving Cally, his intended bride at the alter. Chris could not go through the wedding, he broke Calla’s heart and pissed off her family, including her brother Hunter, who was his best friend and in love with. Chris, an established service dog trainer saw in the news that Hunter, a firefighter was injured during a fire and rescue. He needed to see him, he took his dog Lucy with him and returned to his hometown. He has not been home and needed to make amends with those he hurt when he left so abruptly. Hunter was not that happy to see him but he was dealing with a lot. Chris has a surprising ally who helped him get back in Hunters life. Everyone could use such an admirable person in their life, one who forgives and looks out for their loved ones. I loved how everything plays out in this book, the story is beautifully plotted and there is never a dull moment. There is plenty of drama, angst, lots of heartfelt and emotional moments and a great friends to lovers second chance romance. K.C. does a great job raising awareness about mental health, PTSD, guilt, depression and mentions suicide, she handles it with care while keep it all real. Thank you for this wonderful story and the emotional rollercoaster ride.

John Solo is a talented narrator and voice artist. He is perfectly casted to bring these characters to life, humanize them, giving each their own voice and personality. His portrayal of each character is perfection, making them sound just as I picture them to sound. You could hear how much heart he puts into his work as he captures the characters emotions, their vulnerabilities which is heard in his performance. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another wonderful listen🎧

as good as the ebook

The story is always 4-5 stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook. I can't listen to an audiobook without knowing the book, that's not possible for me.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, I’m over the half, but I listen enough to give a review.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

5* - very very good
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A

3* - it's more then a one-time-listening.
it's like a B

Enjoyable Listen

I did enjoy this story, but it didn't have the same pull to me as other books - but hey, everyone is different, so what some people didn't enjoy so much other people will love and vice versa.

I think I had a problem relating to Chris, there was just something about him that just didn't gel with me. I did love Lucy though!! I think Chris came across as someone who was hiding who he was when he left town before, as he just wasn't honest with the people he cared about, not even his own parents. Therefore, I could totally understand the distrust from people when he went back to town.

Now Hunter, he was suffering PTSD, and I think this is something else that is only usually portrayed in books with Veterans, but here we see that it is a serving fire fighter who has this, and his depression is really affecting him. I think that the way Hunter was written was incredible, it was like being with him and going though all the emotions he had.

I totally loved the narration of John Solo, I knew who was talking and when, and at the scenes with Hunter's depression and him sobbing were brilliant.

Sweet & Romantic, John Solo is Wonderful

I was in such a mood for something sweet, and K.C. Wells’ Here For You was just the ticket. A slow burn, hurt/comfort romance, with a hard won (and very satisfying) happily ever after, Here For You includes some interesting family dynamics and a truly terrific dog.

For me, the best part of this story is the depth K.C. Wells goes in exploring these characters. The guilt Chris has lived with after leaving his fiancée at the altar, abandoning his friends and family, and moving across the country has really done a number on him. Chris has been unable to establish any deep relationships and instead focused on his career training rescue dogs.

Hiding the truth of his love for his best friend, Hunter has lived with feelings of guilt and shame. After a traumatic event, Hunter’s struggling with PTSD and depression, and has closed himself off from family and friends.

I know this all sounds pretty heavy, but Ms. Wells keeps the mood hopeful and uplifting. The characters are pretty open about their feelings, and the supporting cast is colorful, kind, and helpful. Filled with plenty of feel good moments, Here For You is a real feel-good romance.

Recently released on audio, John Solo delivers a wonderful performance. There’s a whole range of emotions in this story and Mr. Solo makes the most of it.
