About this listen
An explosive new science fiction series by New York Times best-selling author Kevin J. Anderson, Hidden Empire is the first volume in The Saga of the Seven Suns, modeled after the Star Wars and X-Files universes. Anderson has become the foremost science fiction writer of the century, bringing to life vivid characters and worlds that delight his fans across the galaxy.
The Klikiss, a now-extinct alien civilization, left behind vast technological information that has been discovered by two xenoarchaeologists. One discovery, a device that converts gas planets into life-giving suns is quickly put to the test with unimaginable results. Arising out of the test is a new alien species that threatens every human. Mankind is left with the dim reality - either fight the new alien life form or face humiliation, death and extinction. This riveting adventure swings you from one wondrous realm to another as the Hidden Empire is sought after and exposed.
Anderson has created a gripping beginning to what will surely be his best series yet. George Guidall has returned a stellar performance and brought these characters to life in vivid detail.

The Start of a Great Adventure
After reading all of Kevin Anderson’s books in the Dune saga, I was eager to try something that came entirely from Anderson’s own vision. This book did not disappoint! Hidden Empire is an excellent beginning to a potentially awesome series. By the end of the book Anderson does what all good storytellers do, he makes the reader excited to know the rest of the story. Highly recommended!

Amazing Sci Fi
Best Sci Fi I’ve enjoyed in a long time. Fantastic story with even better narration. Clever, imaginative, thought provoking, exciting, creative and moving. Congratulations to both author and narrator and thanks for an amazing piece of work.

Passed some time in the workshop
A good fun listen, not sure that I would classify it as “hard science fiction “ but enjoyable nonetheless. It definitely sets the scene well for more books in the series with many characters all with stories that remain to be told. The best 5ing about the book is it’s not that predictable so you have to wait for the author to take you where they are going rather than knowing where you are going and, hopefully, enjoying the ride. Thanks Audible.

Mixed feelings at first
While I had mixed feelings at first feeling the author had introduced too many characters in the beginning I’m too quick a succession he did manage to pull it together into a solid story. You could tell though from how many dangling storylines that it was intended to be a series right from the beginning. At least he keeps you guessing as to how the first book would end right up to it happening.

Great start to a saga
With this book it seems like a long drawn out story that maybe, just maybe you’ll labour through, however it keeps you going & going right up until the dramatic ending, no spoilers but it certainly makes you want to reach for the second one & find out just what comes next in The Saga Of Seven Suns

Old and very good
Excellent performance by George Guodel
I was glad the first part became available in the plus catalogue. I'll wait a few months if they will add the second book (of I believe 8). I will continue this series.
It was fantastic world building great characters families intrige, alien cultures a little bit of magic, robots, dead mystery civilization. Fast paced stories I loved it!
I did have to suspend reality in favour of story telling. The leaders were comiclly incompetent. The story would make more sense if Cheska was married in stead of engaged. Sarain failing a trade deal but she gets promoted. A wise leader steps down in crisis.
This story was written in the early 2000, given the shows that had been running at the time the story muts have been more predictable at the time. I was able to make the prediction and was glad I was wright. And still the story threw a some good surprises.

An enthralling opening to the Saga
Hidden Empire is the first book in the Saga of the Seven Suns and as far as audiobooks go it’s a hidden gem. Or Diamond, you might say.
I have both read the book and now listened to the audiobook and I just cannot recommend this series enough. If you’re looking for a new bing-worthy sci-fi epic then drop a credit and you will not be disappointed.
Hidden Empire is a fantastically set and paced opener to a new and tumultuous sci-fi fantasy future for Humanity that extends across the Spiral Arm. Presented as a space-opera (chapters are named after the character they follow), it allows for a compelling narrative that manages to be both character driven and grand in scope.
George Guidall brings an excellent range to the audiobook performance, adding nuance to dialogue and musings that bring characters to life.
Without giving any plot away, I truly cannot recommend this audiobook enough.
