Summary

The cartel boss - El Jefe.

Thiago Reyes was separated from his childhood best friend years ago, but after his father dies, he inherits the largest drug cartel in the US. His first call to action is to save his captive friend, Manny, from his own father. Rescuing Manny will not only start a full-blown war with Antonio Méndez, but it will put the Reyes family at risk.

Thiago would do anything for Manny.

Rescued, but hurt.

Manny Méndez-Beltrán, hidden by his father from potential enemies, was imprisoned for more than four years in his bedroom. He lost hope that Thiago would rescue him, and when he finally does, Manny is furious. Thiago had abandoned him with his father for a long time, and the fear that the love of his life has found someone else weighs on his mind. The world has gone on without him, leaving Manny inexperienced and feeling out of place.

No path, except through the flames.

Reunited, Thiago and Manny must learn to be with each other again. As their relationship grows to what it should have been years ago, the fallout rages on around them. Manny either must learn to fight at Thiago’s side or risk being seen as too weak to be the jefe’s future husband. If he can’t toughen up, someone will kill him, and the bullet might come from either side.

Mafia romance full of action

I liked being immersed in the world of Manny and Thiago, it was something different.
Manny is locked away by his own father and ekes out an existence in his bedroom. He has hope that his friend Thiago will get him out, but it takes 4 years for Thiago to come.
When Thiago's father dies, he inherits his cartel. His first act is to free Manny. But the latter is angry that it took so long.
Thiago's everyday life is so different from what Manny could have imagined. And Manny's liberation triggers a war.
The story was exciting, there was always something going on. I liked Manny, who was a bit clueless and didn't know much about cartel life either. That changes when he comes to live with Thiago and Manny has to learn to assert himself.
Thiago is very possessive of Manny and is quick to make that clear to his co-workers. He is, after all, "El Jefe." He is also a strong character who knows how to assert himself.

The story is emotionally told, there are ups and downs and at the end it gets really exciting again. The development of the relationship between the two was interesting, I liked that. Life in the cartel is action-packed and you never know what will happen next, but you always have to expect the worst.

Joseph Thorson did a good job of telling the story and he did a good job of setting the accent for the protagonists. This made the characters seem very authentic.
An entertaining story full of action and deep rooted family ties.

Deviously good!

I love this interconnected world and how we get all different sides and aspects of it.
Such a devious story of a cartel boss and he's childhood love. very morally (dark) grey characters but with a uniqueness that allows you to overlook that and focus on the relationships. A bit of a thrill here and there, a classic face-off with a known "enemy" that ends in what I thought was a surprising but oh so streamy way and an epic sort of second chance at love.
I love this world and want more more more!!

Emotional

This story is full of emotion. Manny is locked away by his father supposedly to protect him. He has hoped and waited for Thiago to come rescue him. When Thiago does rescue him, Manny is mad at Thiago for not doing so sooner. Together Thiago’s possessiveness comes out. Manny being inexperienced in love and life finds a way to fit. I liked the characters. I think the story flow was smooth. I feel the narrator Joseph Thorson did a good job at bringing the characters to life
