About this listen

A killer hides deep in the darkness…

DI Rob Marshall is stuck in Gartcosh, leading the new Behavioural Sciences Unit – a staff of one and a third – where he’s executing a fruitless hunt, profiling every single murder in Scotland just in case they’re serial cases.

But when a young Peebles woman’s body is discovered in Neidpath Tunnel, disused since the sixties, Marshall is called in to consult on a case on his old home turf. Paired up with his replacement, a cop who’s disinterested in the work, Marshall must tread a line between helping and not jumping to conclusions.

As the scope of the case wides, can Marshall find a killer who may have led many down his path of darkness? Or is Marshall on his own road to destruction?

Just gets better and better.

Another fantastic DI Marshall book. The main crime to be solved is of course an exciting one, coupled with major goings on within the police, means the book has lots of moving parts. They are held together by the superb writing of Ed James, who has managed to create a series that has blossomed more and more with every book. Angus King of course does a brilliant job.

Excellent

Complex and detailed (I had to rewind quite a few times especially as there are some similar names in this book - but it might be because I was ill in bed with shingles!), great action and loved the descriptions of Beltane in the region. Angus King stretched his skills from London to South African accents and, as ever, brought the characters to life.
Highly recommended.

A good team effort

I like this series, DCI Marshall is neither broken or arrogant, he is a thinker. The thing I like most is the journey of solving the case. The actual case or cases are the icing on the cake. Less of Elliot this time but I an looking forward to the next one.

I need No 7

I have just this minute finished Marshall No 6 and I honestly think that was the best so far. So many varied story threads running through the whole book , so many clever plot twists and changing characters. I loved it. Ed James has left us on a cliffhanger so January 2025 can’t come quickly enough. The second Shunty book is due out on my birthday so thank you Ed for my birthday present 😉. What can you say about the outstanding Angus King that hasn’t been said many many times before. If there was an Oscar for narration he would win it hands down.

The book was a brilliant listen and I can’t wait to get reacquainted with the team early next year.

Compelling listen

Another well written tale involving Rob Marshall & his family, friends & colleagues. Listened to the whole thing in 2 days! Fantastic accompaniment to my housework - barely noticed the effort or the dullness in the chores as I was completely invested thanks to the plot twists story line courtesy of the Author & the perfect narration by Angus King..... looking forwards to the next in the series
