About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
When age makes you invisible, secrets are easier to hide
Lydia imagines her new job running a Senior Citizen's Social Club three afternoons a week will involve drinking tea while playing gentle games of cards, listening to The Beatles and reminiscing about food rationing and The Blitz.
She does not expect to find a failed actor addicted to shoplifting, a woman who's been hiding from a mysterious and very chequered past, and a prolific yarn-bomber. It turns out that their ideas about how to spend their afternoons are very different.
After a tragic accident means the council threatens to sell the community centre, the Social Club, aided by their friends in the nursery next door and a geriatric orphaned dog, set out to save it.
They might not be able to save the hall, but they might just save each other - if their pasts don't catch up with them first...

Another triumph
I have enjoyed Clares writing since The Sober Diaries, the book that got me sober 6 years ago.
This storyline was fun and engaging and Clares hooks you into the characters lives quickly. find myself recommending to friends

Brilliant.
Loved this brilliantly funny book by the great Clare Pooley. I think it might be my favourite of her books so far, I simply couldn’t put it down or turn it off… it doesn’t work as a book to nod off to.

Fun story
Although most of the main characters are in their 70’s, the book does have other age groups, ethnicity and is all inclusive. How their lives intertwine makes for compelling reading

Lydia standing up for herself
A lot of bits that were believable among the impossible . I wasn’t sure where Lucky came into it but it was good to have a teenage father who learned a few lessons.

Funny, Poignant & Uplifting
I absolutely loved this book. The characters were fully developed, each with a past to explore. This diverse group of individuals were brought together with the united aim to save their local community centre. En route they had their own problems to resolve.
Highly recommended.

The story and the excellent narration
An excellent fun filled story, narrated beautifully. Highly recommend as a holiday listen. Wonderful way to explore invisibility as we get older and what fun you can have with it.

Never judge a book by it's cover!
Boy, did I need this book? I've been reading dark thrillers for months, and this was a welcome delight.
Starting with a coach trip for the over seventies and under five isn't necessarily everybody's ideal day out, but when the police blue light them to stop and pull over, the drama begins.
This is a light-hearted tale that certainly makes you sit up and think. Living in such a judgemental world, it's easy to make assumptions, but as Pooley cleverly explains, there is more to most people than just the cover.
I laughed out loud on several occasions and thoroughly enjoyed this witty book.
Added bonus was the fantastic narrator - Clare Corbett #No1Fan
