About this listen

Human sacrifice still goes on uncomfortably close to home - cases have been found in the U.S., Europe, and the United Kingdom. In other parts of the world, such as South America, ritual killing is almost commonplace. Human Sacrifice investigates the terrifying current spate of human sacrifices and ritual killings. Jimmy Lee Shreeve draws on police reports and interviews with the victims' families to paint a horrifying picture of ritual sacrifice at home and abroad.

Could be better

Narrator did his best.
This book was a memoir about Jimmy Lee but dropped in references and information about human sacrifices.
It was quite repetitive and frowned upon academics in the field.

Unique to a Point...

The author is American and on occasion the cultural anti-intellectualism he has been brought up within shines through - despite his obvious efforts to remain balanced. He makes no mention of the recent academic report which states that the US military has killed between 20-30 million people around the world since 1945. Yes - that's right - the US has sacrificed around 30 million people on the altar of predatory capitalism - but the author chooses to ignore this inconvenient fact. Although the USSR did the major share of the fighting against the Nazi Germans during WWII (sufffing 34 million casualties in the process), true to form the author instead equates Marxist-Leninism with Nazi German ideology as if the two modes of thinking were the same! Of course, he quite happily enjoys the freedom the Soviet sacrifice gave him - but also ignores the fact that Nazi German atrocities possessed a disturbing component of religiosity to them every bit as potent as the African traditions the author fixates upon. A good book sullied by the odd utterance of stupidity and an attitude that accommodates the evil behaviour of others far too readily. It is obvious from his websites that the author is quite willing to encourage religious ignorance as a means to make a quick buck.

Badly written and narrated

Written in the style of a 1950’s private detective story. There’s too much to pick apart really. He seems to think and refers to Africa as a country. Could have been written and read in about half the words. Lots of waffle about him being an investigative journalist. Lots more waffle about bands he’s been in and people he’s mates with and their knowledge/experience of spiritual stuff whilst taking mushrooms etc. mostly boring and bragging about himself. Sorry to say but not worth paying for.

Interesting but the narrator

The narrator bothered me because the author is English so having an American accent trying to pronounce words like Cambridgeshire just sounded wrong. Also his attempts to do English accents for some of the other people were just nails on a chalkboard to me

A fascinating exploration of man’s continuing dark sides

A fascinating delve into the depravity of man both past and present. Well researched and informative.

Spoiled slightly by the incorrect pronunciation of places in the United Kingdom.

ugh

I checked out after he mentions pretty early how he was a fan of Allister Crowley, and claimed that his title of "wickedest man in the world" was "unfair"... that told me everything I needed to know about this Author's credibility.
