About this listen
From the international number one best-selling author of the DCI Ryan mysteries.
Hysteria is the second instalment in Ross' brand-new Dr Alex Gregory series, narrated by actor Hugh Dancy.
Recently returned from his last case in Ireland, elite forensic psychologist and criminal profiler Dr Alexander Gregory receives a call from the French police that he can’t ignore. It’s Paris fashion week, and some of the world’s most beautiful women are turning up dead, their faces slashed in a series of frenzied attacks while the world’s press looks on.
Amidst the carnage, one victim has survived, but she’s too traumatised to talk. Without her help, the police are powerless to stop the killer before he strikes again - can Gregory unlock the secrets of her mind before it’s too late? Murder and mystery are peppered with dark humour in this fast-paced thriller set in a spectacular Parisian landscape.

Where the first story was bland and obvious throughout, this was so much better, enthralling, well defined characters, actual thought put into the plot, the story progression and the local ( Paris).
Where the first book narration sounded like the narrator was half asleep and struggled with accents and seemed under strict orders not to put any feeling whatsoever into the telling of t he story, this was far far better, it seemed the narrator was finally let off the leash, put meaning and emphasis into the narration, and was a joy to listen to.
I cannot speak to the accents , it has been a long long time since I have been to Paris, my impression of my time there was that the French spoken in Paris is harsher and more clipped than where I learnt french in Marseille, so will leave that topic to other reviewers, but to my untrained ear it still sound d far far better than the rediculous northern Irish of the first book ( set in Ireland, not Northern Ireland)
The dreaded snoozefest of appaling overly long-winded descriptions were also thankfully missing in this book.
I whizzed through this book and am off to buy the third.
if you are a fan of DI Tanner, this is a softer, more thoughtful series. I would also recommend skipping t he e first book entirely the only 2 salient points buried in that awful time are covered in the second book do there really is no need to torture yourselves or indeed put you off this series entirely.
you can always skip back to it later, once you get the good stuff, to make sure you didn't miss anything, and I think you will agree you haven't by skipping the first book.
So much better than the first, enthralling.

But that did not deter from the excellent story!
Throughly enjoyed this book, fascinating!

I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first in the series. The setting of Paris is great and I think Ms Ross captured it's essence well, and it was interesting to read about the French justice system. The ending took me totally by surprise.
Excellent narration by Hugh Dancy.
