Illicit King by Maggie Cole is a dark mafia forbidden romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Wen Ross and Mia Madison. This is the first book in the Mafia Wars Ireland series.

I really enjoyed the relationship that bloomed between Alaina and Brody. It was messy but you couldn't help but root for them. I liked that we got both of their points of views throughout the book.

I can't wait for the next book in the series Illicit Captor to be released on June 15, 2023, so I can get Aidan and Scarlett's story.

Wen and Mia did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this book if you like dark romances, mafia romances, forbidden romances, age gap romances, or enemies to lovers romance.

What a journey! This whole story has passion, heat, suspense and sizzling romance. What more can we ask for. The narrators were excellent and that accent !! The alphaness brings out a sense of possessive security and love in any male MC but when it is from Maggie Cole, you can understand the impact. I have no words to explain how excited I was to receive this audiobook for review and I hope everyone uses a credit to experience this masterpiece...

Maggie Cole does it again, getting me into a book I cannot put down. This is some of my favorite mafia romance and now we are going across the pond to the O'Connor Clan for Brody's story. He is ruthless, ready to take back what belongs to him, and taking the O'Leary's down is what he needs to do. He knows reaching them through Alaina is a start, so using his charm and keeps his anonymity, he begins his mission. Alaina is merciless. She takes on the tasks her brothers fail at, no matter the cost, she can be merciless. But while it helps the clan, she still has not won the favor of her father. The attention from Brody is welcomed, especially knowing who her father wants her to marry. As these two get to know each other, feelings grow, and now the stakes begin to change for Brody. But family traditions are strong, men are difficult, and now Brody has a real task at his feet. Keep Alaina from marriage, yet still reach his goal. But what will happen when his secret comes out? Will Alaina accept an O'Connor? Will the O'Connor's accept Alaina? Will Alaina ever get her father's approval? This is fast paced with twists and turns that not only made me cringe but had me cheering all at the same time. I love the dynamics, the struggle, the joy of hating some of evil characters and the true love that builds. It's fantastic and now I can't wait for the next book!

Wen Ross brings his Irish brogue to this one, so good and enjoyable, I was thrilled to see him as the narrator. He creates so many good characters in this, from the dangerous to the loving. He becomes Brody and creates that dark, daring man that has a teddy bear heart. Mia Madison too nails her accent and as Alaina comes through as the strong, resiliant woman. She gives her the tough exterior and at times even brought me to tears with her vulnerability. Loved this team!

OK, so the Irish accents aren't the best I've heard but this in no way detracts from the performance or the story. if you loved the other mafia wars series this author has written then you'll love this continuation as much as I did. I'm looking forward to listening to Aiden and Scarletts story.

Couldn’t continue listening to this the Irish accents were dreadful. I can’t understand why you couldn’t source better narrators .

No offence Wen Ross but please never ever do a Irish accent ever again and this is coming from a Irish woman who has lived in the west east and south of Ireland and never heard a accents so bad. I would recommend to both author and production company that you actually look into hiring a Irish male narrator. As for the story etc badly researched badly put together.
