About this listen
Daniel Ellis trusts no one and trusts love even less.
His longstanding commitment to self-reliance backfires when a series of events finds an unlikely savior offering him assistance at every turn. How can the aggravating widower who's sat at the end of his bar the past few years be his knight in shining armor?
Reluctantly taking a job as Eric Jordan's assistant becomes more than just a means to a safe haven. Working for his aloof bar patron broadens Daniel's perspectives, threatening to tear down every wall he's built around his heart as he begins to learn more about a man he's always purposely ignored. All Daniel wanted was to hide from the trouble that was following him, not have the rest of his world turned upside down by the wealthy older man who ended up being nothing he expected and everything he didn't realize he might need.
In the Eye of the Beholder is an emotional slow burn, age gap, hurt/comfort journey of two broken hearts who find that the road to healing might require joining forces.

Just the beginning
The audiobook narration for this book is nothing short of fantastic.
For me, though I did enjoy the story overall, it didn’t quite bring the same level of romance as book 1. I actually put this one off for so long thinking it’d be emotionally devastating like book 1, and for me it wasn’t-which is actually a positive imo. But the actual plot points that drive the romance forward are a bit disjointed.
HOWEVER, if I think of this book as showing the way that two people who are completely closed off decide to slowly open up to each other in a very two-steps forward & one-step back sort of way, then in my head it completely works.
I generally prefer books where couples get together at least mid-way so that we get a lot of on page time of them being cute & swoony, but these characters said no to that and really dragged it out until the last moment.
Because of that I felt like even the epilogue was just showing their beginning. And I would love to read more content about them in a year or five when they are fully settled in together.

Brilliant
The book was well written. The relationship gradually developed and strengthened between the main characters. Romance blossomed and you were left smiling by the end of the book. It was low angst, although serious topics were handled sensitively (like the loss of his wife from cancer). I’d class this as a feel-good book despite the title of the series. I loved it and would recommend. The narrator was also amazing. The voices were perfect, the sound levels spot on throughout, and I was kept engaged throughout.

OK
I enjoyed the storyline in the book but the main character, Daniel, was really difficult too like. I appreciate that he had had a difficult early life and was bitter but he was so aggressive and whiney it just drove me nuts

loved it
I loved this book, a great storyline with plenty of emotion and enough to keep the listener's attention from start to finish. The main characters are really well developed and easy to get attached to. The narrator did an excellent job. I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a well written slow burn m/m romance.

Nope
Well... this was disappointing. I really enjoyed Until I Saw You and was looking forward to this but unfortunately I didn't enjoy this one like I expected to. I found Daniel insufferable in all honesty, Eric is 49 but lacks basic communication skills and there was just zero chemistry between these two for me. I came close to DNF-ing but pushed through and I wish I hadn't bothered as this just gave me nothing... the potential mafia side plot vanished, Daniels history wasn't ever fully explained, explored or delt with and neither was Erics issues with his dead wife's family. I literally have nothing more to say about this book. 🤷♀️
