About this listen
Ingrid Palmer doesn't intend to ever marry. Her cruel father has taught her not to risk such misery. Instead, she helps her mother in her dress shop, volunteers at an orphanage, and does as much as she can to help the women's suffrage movement in Kansas City. However, when a brilliant newspaper reporter wants to write about women's rights, Ingrid's world begins to gradually shift.
Can Ryan O'Neal break through the walls she's built to protect herself?

Ingrid & Ryan!
A bad experience can leave a person tainted for life. That is what has happened to Ingrid. Watching and experiencing her father's wrath first hand has made the decision easy. She is never getting married. Working with her mother at her store and volunteering at the orphanage fills her up, but her passion is helping women getting the right to vote. She meets a local reporter, Ryan, who is willing to do some articles about women's suffrage and the two hit it off. Ryan has his sights set on the smart, beautiful woman, and patience may be his virtue! Ingrid is being harassed though, telling her to stay away from her best friend, Ryan. Could it be her soon to be stepbrother? And why would he do such a thing? Will Ryan be able to keep her safe? And will he win her heart? This book has a lot to it! A bit of history, a little drama and suspense all keeping my attention and giving me the need to know how it's going to end. Plus the adorable little girl at the orphanage is just a plus! I loved this look back in time.
EJ Lavery performs this wonderful story and provides us with an array of voices! From the pompous to the ordinary, she brings out each voice, giving the perfect nuances and inflections to make the characters realistic. I enjoyed her narration and look forward to more.

Christian Historical Romance
What a sweet romance!! I fell in love with this Irishman myself! He might have been forcing himself to be patient, but this time at least, it was well worth it!!
Except for one time the narrator used her Irish accent for the wrong character, I found her quite perfect!
