About this listen

Ellie manages a swank Mayfair gallery, has really good hair, loyal friends, and a loving family. It's only her succession of lame duck boyfriends that ruin the picture. Oh, and the famous rock-star father she's never met. Then Ellie's perfect life is smashed to pieces when her secret is sold to the tabloids. When David Gold, her father's ruthless but charming lawyer, is sent in to sort out the mess, Ellie is torn between attraction and irritation...

Sarra Manning keep writing and putting on audible

Any additional comments?

Reticent about buying a 'weight issues' book when I tried 'You don't have to say you love me,' I was thrilled with the listen and thoroughly enjoyed the characters, the romance and the sexual fizziness that pulsed through the book.

I was looking forward to trying another Manning that wasn't for teens and this sounded suitably fun. It did not disappoint.Manning does likeable, sympathetic characters with flare and without making them too thick or feeble. And the supporting cast of characters are all equally enjoyable players in this slick, escapist and refreshingly light story. No newspaper would be allowed to run a headline using the word 'bastard,' but the portrayal of the odious and relentless nature of the more muck-raking, scurrilous branch of popular culture media is brilliantly written and provides a fresh angle to keep the plot moving. The lust and longing for the object of Ellie's affection is almost palpable and the tension is brought up to boiling point before Ellie and the reader get to enjoy some suitably charged release. There is no shying away from turning up the eroticism valve in a Sarra Manning sex scene which she teases and builds up to perfectly; and such romances are all the better for the inclusion of such satisfyingly written climaxes. All in all this is pure sizzling fun - with plenty, of high and lows and a pleasingly swoon-some man to amp up these heated romances that Manning does so well.

Loved it

Escapism in the best possible way, I’ve listened to this book so many times and I still think it’s great

Just perfect

It’s one forty in the morning and I’ve just rampaged through the last 4 hours of this audiobook, because I couldn’t sleep without knowing how it ended.
I love this book. It’s predictable in places, surprising in others, and an altogether thoroughly enjoyable listen, if romantic literature is your thing. The characters are well written, the plot is charming and the story is certainly addictive.
My only criticism of the whole thing would be that the ending felt a little rushed. Another chapter would probably have done it but it doesn’t ruin the story overall, which I adored.
The voice artist was great, I really enjoyed listening to her characterisation, particularly of Ellie.
Pure, romantic fiction escapism. Highly recommend it!

Enjoyable.

Enjoyable listen. I enjoyed the story, not the ending. It felt unfinished... a bit unresolved at the end. Also the MMC became a bit too soppy in the last chapter for my liking.
The narration made it worth the listen.

Listen to the sample

I was really keen to listen to this as although not my usual genre I really enjoyed You Don't Need To Say You Love Me. I have listened to less than 30 minutes but can't listen to the narrator for one more minute. Others might not mind so please listen to the sample but for me she made the group of girls sound like a bag full of budgies. Sorry - sending it back and disappointed to do so!!

Dull with horrible narration

What was most disappointing about Sarra Manning’s story?

The narration. The heroine was supposed to be from a Camden council estate yet sounded like she was from Fulham. And she insisted on doing all the voices. The women were screechy and cliched and the men sounded like characters from Mongrels or Eastenders with gravelly voices. Totally distracted from an otherwise slow moving story

Terrible

If you like a book with a poor story line - pages and pages of chick flick sex, no build up to anything believable this is the book for you!

Pretty painful at times

Unfortunately the story line is pretty weak and drawn out. Overall quality isn't helped by exaggerated narration. Shame. Halfway through and struggling to continue to the end.
