About this listen

London. Nine million people. Two-hundred-and-seventy tube stations. Every day, thousands of chance encounters, first dates, goodbyes and happy ever afters.

And for 20 years, it's been where one man and one woman can never get their timing right.

Jennifer and Nick meet as teenagers, and over the next two decades, they fall in and out of love with each other. Sometimes they start kissing. Sometimes they're just friends. Sometimes they stop speaking, but they always find their way back to each other.

But after all this time, are they destined to be together or have they finally reached the end of the line?

I thoroughly enjoyed this story.

On finishing the book and felt as if I wanted to Google the characters to find out where they all are now, they were that real. I also have the urge to purchase a ticket to London and ride round on the tube all day.

Buy this book and the authors back catalogue. You won’t be disappointed

100 % recommend.

The great thing about the book is that the author used real-life events and weaved them into the story. She did a gòod job of making the characters real and intriguing, but for me, the off on angst just went on far too long and I'd already (correctly) guessed in the middle how it was going to end.

Good but bit predictable

A very satisfying listen! This book is full of characters you recognise and drama you hope not to!

Feeling Filled Tale set in familiar surroundings

Sarra Manning at her best! I’ve been reading her books for many years and I loved listening to the character development across the years in this one. You still get the teenage infatuation that Sarra writes so well, but this time the main characters also get the chance to mature. A beautiful ode to London, to yearning and growing up. Recommend!

If you’re familiar with Sara Manning, you’ll think you know what to expect with this. Honestly; this is nothing like her other work. It is, without a shadow of a doubt, her best.
The characters felt so real, probably made more so by the real life situations they were placed into. I never wanted this book to end. I was so glad of the epilogue, jumping forward the best part of 15 years so we knew what had happened to the characters, but I would happily have listened to another 20 chapters about the intervening years.
Two books have really stayed with me since I started listening to books through Audible: McFarlane’s ‘Last Night’, and this one. I believed every moment of it, and fell head over heels for the characters, so much so that I did wonder if they were truly based on real people at one point. It’s beautifully written, well narrated and it’s honestly just perfect.

Beautiful story, truly believable

The characters were the same age as me, I loved all the historical & cultural references. Felt very real & connected. Well written & narrated.

Real life events woven into the story...

More like an ode to London transport than a story. Don't waste your precious time

Boring

I am a Londoner and so a novel that includes tube lines seemed like the book for me. However the narrator for me made me dislike the characters. She sounded just too annoying which was fine as a teenager but it didn’t work as an adult. So if I had read the book I think I would have enjoyed it more and definitely would have pronounced Covid correctly.

I enjoyed the tube stations and the reference to major events but the storyline remained obvious unfortunately.

Narration did not work for me.
