About this listen

Passion, tide, and time - the third book in the legendary Poldark saga. Cornwall, 1790. Ross Poldark faces the darkest hour of his life. Accused of wrecking two ships, he is to stand trial at the Bodmin Assizes. Despite their stormy married life, Demelza has tried to rally support for her husband. But there are enemies in plenty who would be happy to see Ross convicted, not least George Warleggan, the powerful banker whose personal rivalry with Ross grows ever more intense.

Great story line

If you could sum up Jeremy Poldark: Poldark, Book 3 in three words, what would they be?

Warm, riveting, addictive.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Demelza - who could not love her honesty and zest for life?

Which character – as performed by Oliver J. Hembrough – was your favourite?

Ross.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes! Laughed, cried and was always desperate to get back to it. I mainly listen to the Poldark novels on long runs and they make the miles fly.

Any additional comments?

Please record more Poldark novels, please, please. I don't know how I can possibly live without them. If you record enough, then by the time I finish I'll be able to go back to the beginning and start again - like painting the Sydney Harbour Bridge. (For the record, I am the wife of the account holder, just in case he finds himself surprised by reading this review.)

More please!!

I love the Poldark stories and their evocation of Cornwall of the past. This narrator is one of the best I've ever heard - superb accents, and even managing the female voices sympathetically. A real pleasure to listen to.

outstanding voice performance

These books have been a big part of my life for over 40 years and it’s wonderful to return to them in audio form. So glad to have Oliver Hembrough back as narrator after the blip of ‘Demelza’. Loving the series!

Wonderful timeless stories

Where does Jeremy Poldark: Poldark, Book 3 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Other than the Poldark series book 1 & 2, I have only listened to two other books. In answer to the question it rates high. Oliver J Hembrough is a great story teller. He handles all the various voices well and you just get drawn in and love the characters.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favourite character is Demelzia, who could not love her. She is the back bone of the whole series and always tries to make everyone happy. She loves Ross with a passion. But I also really enjoy Judd Painter. Makes me laugh every time he goes off on one with his tain't right moments.

What does Oliver J. Hembrough bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Big fan of Oliver's reading. He makes the characters come alive to me. Can't wait to listen to more of his narrations.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not sure I could listen to 11 hours non-stop!

Any additional comments?

Can't wait to get the next and last in the series.

Third book and loving it

I have enjoyed Winston Graham's novels of Cornwall so much that this is either the fourth or fifth time that I have read them. He sweeps you back effortlessly to a Cornwall in the late 18th century. Congratulations to the author.

Winston Graham writes the 3rd book in the Poldark

I am totally hooked on the story of the Poldarks, their friends and their community.
Have your tissues to hand at times as life is hard in them at times.
I am hoping that Ross comes to his senses and doesn't loose the good thing he has in Demelza' by hanging onto the past, Elizabeth really doesn't deserve it!
So let's see where book 4 takes us.

A great performance
