Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The audiobook of Jingo is narrated by impressionist and actor Jon Culshaw, best known for BBC Radio 4’s Dead Ringers, and for the Doctor Who audiobooks and dramas. BAFTA and Golden Globe award-winning actor Bill Nighy (Love Actually; Pirates of the Caribbean; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) reads the footnotes, and Peter Serafinowicz (Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace; Shaun of the Dead) stars as the voice of Death. Featuring a new theme tune composed by James Hannigan.

'IT WAS SO MUCH EASIER TO BLAME IT ON THEM. IT WAS BLEAKLY DEPRESSING TO THINK THAT THEY WERE US.'

War is brewing on the Discworld.

An island has appeared from the ocean depths, right in the middle of the sea which separates the proud empires of Klatch and Ankh-Morpork. Of course, no one would dream of starting a war with the neighbours without a perfectly good reason… such as a 'strategic' piece of old rock, for instance.

But when a Klatchian Prince is almost assassinated, peace talks break down and violent nationalism begins to spread. Ankh-Morpork prepares to fight. Only thing is, they don't have an army. Or much in the way of weapons.

Commander Sam Vimes and the 'officially disbanded' City Watch get caught up in a deadly political game where the enemy appears to be on both sides and no one will listen to reason.

And if they don't stop this absurd war, no one will…

Jingo is the fourth book in the City Watch series, but you can listen to the Discworld novels in any order.

The first book in the Discworld series - The Colour of Magic - was published in 1983. Some elements of the Discworld universe may reflect this.

the characters of The Watch

I do like these stories with The Watch very amusing as the banter between Nobby and Colon

Pratchett’s incredible Discworld

I adore Terry Pratchett’s writing and this is one of my favourite stories of his. The narration is fantastic, well produced.

Am I crazy or...

... Has penguin replaced Vimes' "ye gods" with "good grief"??? It's taken me 3 books to figure out what was so off, I love the narration but I'm sure they've changed the wording. Someone please tell me why.

Brilliant

Was skeptical of the new versions as I love the originals. And this is my favourite Pratchett series. But they are fabulous. I love the accents. I love Bill Nighy’s footnotes. Jon Culshaw does an amazing job.

Hut hut hut

Very enjoyable , as expected.
Something of a guide book for 2023.

Theatrically, a bit bland in places.

Just top, top notch.

I really can’t think of an audio performance I have enjoyed more. There are some wonderful narrators out there. Stephen Fry, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith to name a couple but the variety here is spectacular every character is pitch perfect in their bringing to life. The interplay between Colon & Nobby is genius. I have listened to Tony Robinson, Nigel Planer read discworld and enjoyed them but this another level. 7 or 8 stars if I could give it. Off to find if they have re done going postal !!

The best delivery of these novels, so far.

I love Stephen Briggs’ narration but not Nigel Planer so I bought these earlier City Watch books. I will finish buying these even though Briggs is good. John Culshaw is outstanding. Although I like Terry Robinson’s narration it is criminal to abridge these novels. None of the description, irony, characterisation or silly word play is superfluous.

Another great yarn

Terry Pratchett must have spent a considerable time contemplating the ignorance and stupidity of man...

This is another great story, which seem to get better as the main characters gain depth and evolve.

The narration was superb and I cannot wait to hear the next in the series.
