Nyla K welcomes her readers and audiobook listeners back to Alabaster Penitentiary with another dark and twisted tale, a super hot MMF romance. I highly recommend starting with the first book “Distorted”, I also recommend avoiding all spoilers and going in blind because the story will blow your mind. Alabaster Penitentiary is not your typical prison and there is nothing ordinary about its prisoners or even those who run it, some may consider it a wasteland of society’s worst. The correctional officers have their work cut out for them, and not only because of the depraved prisoners they supervise. And because of the remote location of the prison, they practically live there themselves, offsite but close enough and only going off the island for leave. Head Correctional Officer John “Velle” Chevelle and Joy Jameson have been a team, they were even a couple at one time. They run the place under the supervision of Warden Manuel Blanco, but they are the ones who deal with the prisoners daily. When one of their coworkers retires, the warden brings in a new guy, Harley Samuels, a former NYPD officer, who they named Rook. Except this is not the first time Velle and Harley meet. They met the night Harley found out his wife was cheating on him, and the two felt a connection then, but it did not go anywhere. Now they can explore that connection, though Harley has never been with a man or felt attracted to one. Velle does not allow anyone to get close to him and fights the attraction, but they can only deny each other for so long. But he has his reasons to stay away, and Joy is there to comfort Rook when Velle bails, well I am not sure I would call it comfort, but she makes him feel better. Nyla K. does an amazing job building their relationship, a MMF trifecta. The writing, plotting and world building are fantastic, as is the character growth and development. Learning their backstories was intriguing and explained a lot. There is never a dull moment in this book, the drama is non-stop, it is high in angst, kink, emotions, some surprising twists and turns. Nyla K., thanks for another amazing story and wild ride. 

🎧📚🎧 And for the fantastic narration, Sebastian Grove, Silas Hart and Melisandre Verte were the perfect cast to bring the characters and story to life. There was a complete understanding of who they were portraying, they gave each character a voice that was appropriate to their role and they were believable in their respective roles. Their performances complemented each other’s and they make a great narration team. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters' emotions, and had you feeling every single one. These entertaining storytellers are versatile voice artists and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this terrific listen.

After reading Fragments I decided to go back to Joyless and I’m so glad I did as there were so many things I didn’t pick up on when reading it the first time . Absolutely love this series one of the best MM out there and Nyla K sure knows how to break your brain I’m so excited for Brainwashed & Fragments to be on audio but I’ll have to wait patiently.

It’s been a long time since I read Distorted because I was waiting for this book to be available on audio and I am so glad I did! All three narrators crushed it!

If I’m totally honest- does Joy need to be there? Probably not. But she is a badass and I do love her character so even though I felt like her “love” dynamic was more friendship than romantic, homegirl is also holding it down re: plot thing that happened in book 1.

I really enjoyed getting to see glimpses of things that happened in book 1 from the perspectives of these three guards, all of whom were painted completely differently in the eyes of Dash from book 1. And I can’t wait to get even more insight to these events in book 3, which I’m going to start very soon bc this time I can’t wait for the audio!

I’m a huge fan of the Alabaster Pen series and I had a pretty solid image of Joy and her personality. Melisandre Verte was perfect! Joy came across as the kick ass, stone cold fox she was written. Rook and Velle were narrated brilliantly too - 10/10.

This was an amazing listen, I loved the narrators, they really brought the story to life in the best way. The story was fab, I loved the development of the love story, Velle was such a strong character I loved sewing him bend!

Once again, the narrators chosen for this book were fantastic! Such great performances from all three of them that really brought the story & characters to life.
This is a MMF story and I usually struggle a bit with those as the woman always seems to be an afterthought within the dynamic, but it works here more than it has in the past because of how the author writes Joy & her desire to observe more than participate with Harley & Velle. Plus, the spice be spicing! It is damn hot!
However, overall, I do feel this authors strengths lie within her MM dynamics as I feel way more of a connection reading their development individually as characters and as a couple and how that relationship evolves. I loved the overall story and learning more about Ivory and the prison in general. I can't wait for the next book and to see where this crazy talented author is going to take one of the most intriguing series I've read in a while.

Joyless by Nyla K is a dark MMF romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Sebastian Grove, Silas Hart, and Melisandre Verte. This is the second book in the Alabaster Penitentiary series.

This is the third book of Nyla's that I have read, and it won't be my last. I was pulled in from the first chapter and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I loved the chemistry between Rook, Velle, and Joy. I really enjoyed getting all of their points of views throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

I can't wait for the next book in the series Brainwashed to be released on audio so I can get Felix and Lem's story.

Sebastian, Silas, and Melisandre did an amazing job on the narration. They really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would highly recommend this book if you like MMF romances, dark romances, or romantic suspense.

So hot, so dark, so good, .. wow, this book was all of these. The narrators did an excellent performance and really gave these characters a voice. The writing was well done and the story kept you connected until the last word was said. Hot, hot, hot. Definitely spicy, and a good story.
