About this listen

The creator of the hit show Downton Abbey, Julian Fellowes weaves a tale filled with dark secrets and scandal amongst the privileged set in the upper classes of London society. Wonderful and witty, it perfectly captures a bygone era with a colourful cast of characters and an intriguing story.

Julian Fellowes's Belgravia is the story of a secret. A secret that unravels behind the porticoed doors of London's grandest postcode.

Set in the 1840s, when the upper echelons of society began to rub shoulders with the emerging industrial nouveau riche, Belgravia is peopled by a rich cast of characters. But the story begins on the eve of the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. At the Duchess of Richmond's now legendary ball, one family's life will change forever....

If you liked Downton ....

Loved this book, the story and Juliet Stevenson’s delivery made it the perfect antidote to these troubled times. While I was listening I forgot all about Covit 19. Highly recommended.

Gently lovely

Any additional comments?

Normally a crime and thriller reader I thought I would choose something gentle for a change. The main reason for selecting this particular book was the wonderful narrator Juliet Stevenson - always guaranteed to be spot on. I am not a fan of Downton Abbey but I found that this book was beautifully crafted - subtle little words thrown casually into conversation here, a slight impatient tap of a closed fan there. Yes, I definitely recommend it, whatever genre one normally reads.

A really good listen as expected by this author

I enjoyed this from start to finish as it built to the crescendo. Julian almost painted the characters and surrounds into my imagination. Thank you

Great story

Superbly narrated by Juliet Stevenson, this story was hard to put aside. The tale had so many twists and turns, and I was spellbound. Another triumph by Julian Fellowes. Brilliant.

Very entertaining

I'm a huge fan of period dramas, classical fiction etc. So I had high hopes for this book and I was not disappointed.
I am quite new to audio books, and have found myself unable to listen to a couple of books because of the narrator (some voices just grate unfortunately) but I shall be looking out for more audio books read by Juliet Stephenson who has a wonderful tone and read this beautifully!

Brilliant!

I loved this audiobook and couldn't switch it off! The characters are really strong and I was fully caught up in the story, genuinely concerned for the outcome. Juliet Stevenson is, I think, my favourite narrator. I listened to this over Christmas and New Year and it was a real treat.

I thought this would be just like Downton...

I thought this would be just like Downton Abbey and felt Julian could not top that. I have to admit it was similiar but different at the same time. A very compelling story that keeps your attention the whole way through.

It's a 5 for Fellowes!

Brilliantly read by Julie Stevenson, who perfectly achieves the nuances for each character. Fascinating story which gives an accurate insight into the psyche of the social climbers of the Victorian era.
