About this listen
Lizzie has always had bad luck. Losing her heart to her boss leads to her losing her job, and with no money in the bank Lizzie finds herself forced to move back home with her parents.
Now in her 90s, Mrs Dallimore is also coming to terms with her situation. Old age is finally catching up with her. As they form the bond of unexpected friendship, Lizzie begins to realise that she's not the only person to attract bad luck and that sometimes life has a way of surprising you....

Tearful
Such an amazing book, not only is it a bit of a lovey dovey book but so many times within it you will find yourself crying, I purchased this and started out not really getting into it but give it an hour and you won't be able to turn it off.

ONE OF HER BEST
I listened to this through a bout of flu and enjoyed the two different time spans the story crossed and I thought the narrator did a good job. She was easy on the ear which helps when you're not too well. Thank you.

My favourite Erica James book!
Brilliantly read, having already read the book myself I wondered if I could enjoy the audio book as much. However, Genevieve Swallow brought the much loved characters to life so vividly I found myself totally immersed in the story. Once again I found myself wishing it wouldn’t end!

A good listen
Where does The Song of the Skylark rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I have listened to lots of audiobooks. I very much enjoyed it however it wasn't my favourite audiobook nor was it my favourite Erica James novel but it was very still very engaging. I loved the concept of the older lady telling the young girl about her life and the young girl realising that these older ladies have led amazing lives. They were indeed young once too!
What other book might you compare The Song of the Skylark to, and why?
I suppose it is a bit similar to The Dandelion Years also by Erica James. Saskia lives with her grandfathers, whom she adores and values, so again you have the relationship between the older and the younger characters.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
The scenes of Mrs Dallimore recounting the war years.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Across the years.
Any additional comments?
Very much recommended.

Superb!
I loved everything about this audiobook. Enthralling story, especially the reminiscing bits of the book and a fab performance - probably the best I've heard yet!

A beautiful story and thought provoking.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Lizzie was my favourite character as she was so enthusiastic although she had had run of bad luck, but I also loved Clarissa's take on things and her interesting life
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Absolutely....
lovely storyline were two people from different age groups formed a lovely friendship, I thoroughly enjoyed it when the book went from past to present throughout the book. The narrator was good at using different voices for the characters apart from one of them which was supposed to be a Mancunian and he didn't sound much like it.

Slow Burn
This took a while and was a very slow burn and will admit to only half listening for a good chunk at the start, I just couldn’t engage with the jumping of one period to another. However by the end I was completely vested in the story and found it engaging, very much helped by the performance of the narration.
