Summary
The first book in the best-selling Chronicles of St Mary's series which follows a group of tea-soaked disaster magnets as they hurtle their way around History. If you love Jasper Fforde or Ben Aaronovitch, you won't be able to resist Jodi Taylor.
Time Travel meets History in this explosive bestselling adventure series.
'So tell me, Dr Maxwell, if the whole of History lay before you...where would you go? What would you like to witness?'
When Madeleine Maxwell is recruited by the St Mary's Institute of Historical Research, she discovers the historians there don't just study the past - they revisit it.
But one wrong move and History will fight back - to the death. And she soon discovers it's not just History she's fighting....

Time to collect the t
Any additional comments?
This reminded me of Angelmaker and The Girl With All The Gifts, which is definitely not a bad thing. Dystopia, alternative history, gobby protagonist. All good. It's a pacy gallop from mediaeval times to the First World War to the world of the T. rex and then off to Alexandria. It's definitely a "one more chapter before I go to sleep/work/clean up" story. Time travel which isn't time travel, historians armed with manure powered flamethrowers and characters drawn clearly, with humour and who have something of a history are fun. I think I'll be gathering more of this series soon.

Pacy, well researched and delightful
Where does Just One Damned Thing After Another rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
In the top 20
What was one of the most memorable moments of Just One Damned Thing After Another?
The introductions to each of the staff members, setting the scene for the institution and Max's first impressions. Also the cheeky rebelliousness of Max and her cohorts
What about Zara Ramm’s performance did you like?
I felt her voice and intonation was perfectly suited to the character and storyline.A clear, beautifully intoned performance
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
History isn't going to like it
Any additional comments?
This led me on to listen to several more of Jodi Taylor's books and I have enjoyed them all.

Got better and better
Where does Just One Damned Thing After Another rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It is up there among the ones I have most enjoyed.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Aside from our heroine who I did like a lot, it was Peterson that captured my imagination. Probably due to his good humoured and wry way of going about things. I'd like to have had more of him included in the story and I reckon he may have a pretty good back story lurking somewhere.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
After the final test when the now no-longer trainee historians compare what they'd actually been upto when they should have been doing a kind of survival exercise. Needless to say not one of them had actually done the prescribed exercise.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I wasn't completely immersed and having to keep listening no matter what, but I did look forward to each occasion when I got a chance to listen.
Any additional comments?
I have already downloaded the next one in the series and am keen to get started.

Brilliantly funny, witty & superbly entertaining !
And so the start of "The Chronicles of St Mary's" journey begins !!!
Jodi Taylor brings her own brand of witty insight into some major historical events, and with an amazingly DARK sense of humour,........
Which, with BRILLIANT story telling, combines into a hugely entertaining listen & a thoroughly enjoyable experience !!!!!!
I am VERY eagerly looking forward to enjoying further instalments of the St Mary's Chronicles !!!!!
The St Mary's Chronicles, follow a bunch of mad cap historians, as they bump & bash & bang, their way, back & forth through time & history !!!
With HUGE calamities, disastrous enterprises, fun & games & some history sometimes getting done, we follow the group & join them on their expeditions through the eyes of the main protagonist Madeline "MAX" Maxwell !! & delight in the humour & the sheer stupidity of some, and share in their highs & lows, laughs & crys !!!
All resulting in a brilliantly funny, twisted sense of humour, with some history in the mix, make for a thoroughly FANTASTIC listen !!!!!
I ĺove Jodi Taylor's writing & am EAGERLY looking forward to Book 2 of the series "Symphony of Echoes" !!! AND am greatly looking forward to enjoying further instalments of the St Mary's Chronicles !!!!!!!

EXCELLENT CONCEPT
What did you like most about Just One Damned Thing After Another?
Just the idea that historians could go back in time to observe. (My degree is in History)
What did you like best about this story?
Just the idea. Fantastic. A mixture of history, bad guys, good against evil, perhaps a shade of the court of Arthur, and the heroine will out. Girls own world stuff. Back to the days of the Victor and Hotspur comics (no ladies allowed then).
What about Zara Ramm’s performance did you like?
Manage to convey the characters and what made them tick.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I did!
Any additional comments?
Just a very good listen.
