About this listen
They seem like the perfect family. But their secrets are about to come out…
I push open the door to the beautiful French villa and my clever, handsome husband and adorable wide-eyed children follow me inside, taking in the breath-taking view. This should be a blissful summer break, filled with sun, swimming and relaxation but the truth is very different.
Because my husband has just revealed the real reason we’re here.
When our friends staying at the sprawling villa greet us on the sun-soaked terrace, I smile brightly and attempt to calm my nerves. If I can just behave normally, everything will be fine. But if any one of the people sitting around the clear, blue pool discovers the truth my whole world could be shattered.
So I have to pretend we’re the perfect family and I’m the perfect wife–all the while knowing that our lies could destroy us.
If our secrets begin to unravel, how far will my husband and I go to protect them? And will two weeks in the sun end in murder…?

Well written and read, but...
I loved the characters and the plot. A few things were a bit far fetched. I recommend listening to this, but it gets a bit jarring when the same event is laboriously replayed via a different perspective.

A really good plot with plenty of twists and turns.
I found the narrator's voices rather off-putting. No-one sounded at all personable or likeable (even the heroine) so it was hard to connect with the characters emotionally. Luckily I persevered as it was still worth the listen.

Ended too soon!!
Totally addictive listen! i need more!
NOt everything is as rosey in the cutlers family garden as they would like people to believe.
Secrets and lies can fester and destroy a families perfect facade.
Really enjoyed this book, it had plenty of twists and turns to keep me hooked late in to the night! with a plot twist that was unexpected.
i didn't want it to end and i need more!! it left me hanging, with a very abrupt finish!
what happened next!!!

Very good narration, decent plot twists
Weird novel - interesting premise but oddly misogynistic undercurrents about women and marriage, and a plot from the 80s. Is blackmail as bad as child abuse? (How can it ever be, seriously??)
This is okay if read as a fantasy holiday escape and fantasy possible divorce, one where the woman simply sails into the arms of the very attractive man who rescues her and there’s little genuine heartbreak. Won’t be reading anything else by this author.

living a lie
Great story was hooked from the get go.
The fact that everyday lives of a happy couple impacted by a selfish action choice made by one of them.
living a lie would catch up eventually.

really good
however, it was a bit fanciful and also the ending left you wondering what happened to certain people which was frustrating.

Quite Liked This
A new author to me and I did enjoy the storyline and the narrator. Easy to listen to and some good swerves in the plot

Dreadful
The title details book description bears no relation to the story at all. Really misleading. So much so I wonder if it’s a mistake. The narrator can’t pronounce gendarme or en famille or Basel. The story is very superficial.
